How The Chosen plans to create a cinematic universe, explained

The Chosen is a religious historical drama series created by Dallas Jenkins for Angel Studios. Jenkins has also co-written and directed the show. It premiered on December 27, 2017, with its first season consisting of eight episodes.

The series is primarily set in Judaea and Galilee. It follows the life of Jesus and the people he met and inspired in his lifetime. It stars Jonathan Roumie, Elizabeth Tabish, Paras Patel, Noah James, and George H. Xanthis, among others, in prominent roles.

Jenkins appeared at the ChosenCon fan convention in Orlando on September 20, 2024, and announced that there are several projects in development around the series. These would include live-action television series, animated series, and adventure series with Bear Grylls.

Plans for The Chosen Cinematic Universe under works

The creator, director, and co-writer of the series appeared at the ChosenCon fan convention in Orlando on Friday, September 20, 2024, where he announced the exciting plan to extend the series, and to create other shows surrounding it.

The much-awaited fifth season of the show will be released in 2025. Apart from that, a spinoff fourteen-episode animated series The Chosen Adventures, about a 9-year-old inquisitive Abby is under development.

A six-episode unscripted adventure series titled The Chosen In the Wild with Bear Grylls was also announced by Jenkins and Bear Grylls himself. In each episode, Grylls will go on an adventure with a cast member of the show, who will share stories about their life and struggles.

Finally, there will be a three-season limited series following the life and story of Moses. With all these projects underway The Chosen Cinematic Universe is going to become one of the biggest faith-based television ventures.

What is the series about?

The show is set in Judaea and Galilee in the 1st century, during the times when Jesus walked on earth. It follows the life and journey of Jesus as he inspired faith and wisdom in thousands of people.

The show begins with an adult Jesus building his ministry a group of disciples with different backgrounds. He meets and influences many people mentioned in the biblical stories such as Mary Magdalene, Thaddeus, Simon, Andrew, Big James, and John.

In the subsequent seasons, Jesus and his disciples travel around the vicinity od Syria, Samaria, and Judaea. Jesus continues to impart wisdom and perform miracles, but the group has to face several challenges from the authority.

In the last part of the fourth season, Jesus visits his hometown and raises his brother from the dead. The fifth season of the series will continue his journey in the city of Jerusalem.
