The show's official synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads:
"John Dutton controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and land grabs make developers billions."
It continues:
"Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton's property is in constant conflict with those it borders -- an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America's first national park."

When did Turnpike Troubadours perform in Yellowstone season 5?
Turnpike Troubadours, the country music band from Oklahoma, was featured in episode 13 of Yellowstone season 5. Titled Give the World Away, the episode aired on December 8, 2024. The group performed Good Lord Lorrie (from the 2012 album Goodbye Normal Street), Pay No Rent (from the 2017 album A Long Way from Your Heart), and Brought Me (from the 2023 album A Cat in the Rain).
In this episode, the Turnpike Troubadours performed live at the Dutton ranch, where Beth, Rip, and Kayce held an auction to sell off all the ranch's assets, ultimately earning $30 million. The auction was crucial for the Duttons as it provided a means to save their land, prompting them to go all out on entertainment by offering free food and live music.
Moreover, other popular songs by the country music group were used in the show's previous seasons. Their single, Long Hot Summer Day, was featured in season 2 episode 1, while The Mercury was featured in season 3 episode 3 of the hit series.
What happened in Yellowstone season 5?
Yellowstone season 5 part 1 begins with John Dutton's election as the Governor of Montana. He revokes Market Equities's license to develop the Yellowstone region, much to Jamie's dismay. Jamie, who is the state's attorney general, retaliates by calling for his father's impeachment at the state assembly, which gets passed.
However, John is found dead on the day of his impeachment hearing, initially ruled as suicide. It is later revealed that Sarah Atwood, Jamie's girlfriend and lawyer at Market Equities, orchestrated John's murder with Jamie's knowledge.
Beth vows revenge on her half-brother by telling him, "Seeing me will be the last thing you will ever do alive." After putting her father to rest in the ranch graveyard, Beth fulfills her promise and stabs Jamie to death. She and Rip then begin their new life at a Wyoming ranch at the end of Yellowstone season 5.
When John Dutton's adult children struggle to pay the hefty inheritance tax, Kayce comes up with a plan to save the land and his family's legacy. The Duttons sell the land to Chief Thomas Rainwater, leader of the Broken Rock Reservation, for $1.25 an acre. Thus, returning the land to the Native Americans, whom they originally stole the land from centuries ago.
Chief Rainwater promises to protect the land from future development projects, telling Kayce, "Your people are buried on that land, and so are mine. It’s sacred, and that’s how we will treat it."
In part 1 of Yellowstone season 5, Kayce and Monica lose their newborn child. Nevertheless, they seem stronger than ever by the end of the series and move to the East Camp ranch with their son, Tate Dutton.
