What is Killer Lies: Chasing A True Crime Con Man about?
Stéphane Bourgoin is a provocative French serial killer expert and television personality who gained prominence through his books, interviews, and a chilling origin story that pushed him towards a life understanding violent killers.
He used to be a columnist for B movies and horror films in France in the early 70s. Later he moved to the United States and did many odd jobs around film production. He then moved towards a career in making p*rnographic films, first as an assistant and later as a writer.
However, the brutal rape and murder of his girlfriend at the hands of a serial killer in 1976, motivated him towards studying serial killers. From the 1990s onwards, Bourgoin presented himself as an expert on serial killers. He interviewed many infamous serial killers like Ed Kemper and even claimed to have met Charles Manson. He also claimed to have been trained as an investigator by the FBI.
However, after the release of his biography in 2020, his claims were questioned in a series of videos by the YouTube channel 4th Eye Corporation. Many other sources also started digging deep into his stories and found many of them to be invented and plagiarised. Killer Lies: Chasing a True Crime Con Man will present the story behind his lies, why he did it, and how he was exposed.
The description of the series says,
"After citing a violent and horrifying origin story as motivation for his relentless pursuit to understand the minds of murderers, Bourgoin becomes the target of a group of online sleuths who try to untangle his web of lies and unearth the truth. The series fully reveals their dogged investigation and the shocking extent of Bourgoin's deception for more than 30 years."
Killer Lies: Chasing a True Crime Con Man will be available on Nat Geo and Hulu on August 28th, 2024.
