Dominican TV actress Massiel Taveras recently took to Instagram on May 27, 2024, and praised Kelly Rowland. Both actresses faced similar incidents of being pushed away by a female security guard at The Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
The video clips of the female security guard hurrying Kelly Rowland and Massiel Taveras are making rounds on social media wherein Rowland had confronted the guard first, after which the incident with Taveras took place.
In her Instagram post, Massiel Taveras mentioned that everyone must show love and respect to Kelly Rowland, describing her as a “talented, classy, educated woman of color”. Taveras stated:
“ I’m impressed how you handled sister , I didn’t now that happened to you first I was very impressed how calm and genteel you wr because in my case I was tired of the abuse”

In the incident that took place on May 22, 2024, Massiel Taveras walked the Cannes red carpet in a long dress and struggled on her way up the stairs. As she was trying to fix the long train of her dress, a female security guard blocked the TV actress and hurried her up. This resulted in Taveras pushing the guard away as she constantly kept coming close to block her.
In her Instagram post shedding light on the incident, the El Encuentro actress thanked her fans for the “incredible support” and mentioned that everyone needs to stay together at present to support one another and protect each other.
Stressing on having strong boundaries and standing for one’s rights, Massiel Taveras mentioned:
“We are not going to be in silence on situations like that , we need respect ,it’s enough. I hug you queen #kellyrowland , thanks for giving us sooo much God bless your heart”
The incident with Kelly Rowland mentioned by Taveras took place on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet on May 21, 2024, wherein Rowland was seen angry at the security for rushing her, touching her arm, and stepping on her dress.
Commenting on the incident to the Associated Press at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France on May 23, 2024, Kelly Rowland stated:
"The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it."
She continued:
"And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground."
In a piece covered by Daily Mail on May 25, 2024, the female security guard's unnamed colleague came to her defense and mentioned that the security guard was "working under a lot of pressure" to keep people on the carpet constantly moving in order to avoid the buildup of a crowd.
The unnamed staffer mentioned:
“There was no pushing or shoving, or scolding. Security and safety are the priorities, along with keeping to strict timetables set according to contracts — even the celebrities have to stick to the rules.”
Publications like PEOPLE and US Weekly have reached out to the Cannes Film Festival to comment on the incidents involving Rowland and Taveras, but there has been no press release or update on the same.
