Industry season 2 ended on a tense note, leaving the fates of crucial characters like Harper and Yasmine hanging in the air. The last episode of season 2 aired on 19 September 2022, and after two years, the HBO and BBC Two show will return with season 3, whose first episode will be released on August 11, 2024.

Industry deals with a group of ambitious young people who vie for a permanent position at Pierpoint & Co., a reputed investment bank in London. However, given the sheer competition, not all of them can make it in the end.

While season 1 of the series set up the atmosphere, Industry season 2 took the series in a new direction by amping up the tension between the characters, and the complexity of the plot. Here is a brief recap of season 2 highlighting its major moments.

Industry season 2 recap

Season 1 of Industry ended with the much-awaited Reduction in Force (RIF) day. On the day, Harper, Yasmine, and Robert made the cut, while Gus failed to do the same and had to leave the company.

The first season also established various character and plot elements concerning Harper, Yasmine, Robert, Eric, and Nicole, and all of these were further developed in Industry season 2.

Season 2 of the series provided some backstory to many of the principal characters. For instance, Harper was seen trying to reconcile with her estranged brother, while her past was revealed in the process. Similarly, Yasmine’s precarious dynamic with her father was explored in Industry season 2. The ending of the season saw a bitter fallout between the two.

Additionally, several characters dealt with marginally in season 1 were given some depth in season 2. For instance, the Kenny seen in season 2 was a changed one.

As for the plot, Industry season 2 was full of twists and intrigues. The ambitious young minds constantly tried to outdo one another, and only a few moments of bonding could be seen in this environment of general antagonism.

Eric was brought to book for professionally abusing Harper. Pierpoint & Co. has a toxic work culture, and Eric getting fired was a welcome change. However, pressure from the higher management made Harper withdraw her complaint, leading to Eric coming back. This shows the work culture of Pierpoint & Co. was far from improving.

Further, the tactics of manipulation were used often by clients in season 2. Nicole, whose predatory behavior was already hinted at in season 1, continued in the same vein in Industry season 2, emotionally manipulating Robert by roping him into an inappropriate s*xual relationship.

Nicole was also seen s*xually assaulting Venetia, a fresh grad, in season 2. The latter reported the same to the company, making it an open case for all to see. Even then, the higher authorities were reluctant to take steps.

In order to succeed, the workers have to constantly keep bringing in high-value clients and ensure the company’s profit. Nicole used this fact to manipulate Robert. Similarly, Harper was eager to retain her high-profile client Bloom. However, things took a bad turn for Harper due to this.

Characters in Industry often exploit relationships for advancements. For instance, in Industry season 2, Harper began a relationship with Dan, sensing that Eric’s influence within the company was dwindling.

Similarly, Celeste also terminated her relationship with Yasmine as the season approached its end, since her father had refused to financially support her any longer, and Yasmine meant little to Celeste without the wealth.

Betrayal is one of the prominent themes of the series. Towards the end of season 2, Bloom betrayed Harper, and the latter ended up in trouble for indulging in insider trading. In a further twist, it was revealed that it was actually Gus who had begun the insider trading.

In season 2, Gus was seen trying his luck with political work, being hired by an MP. However, he was also seen indulging in unethical practices for money. When his conduct put Harper’s job at risk, he was fired by his employer but was soon recruited by Bloom, who made a huge profit thanks to Gus’ actions.

However, Industry season 2, even though it portrayed a bleak work culture, was not devoid of some redeeming presence of morality. For instance, when it was clear that Harper could go to jail for insider trading, Eric informed HR about her forgery of the degree, resulting in her getting fired, which Eric deemed better than going to jail.
