Industry season 3: How did Rishi end up in a financial crisis?

In Industry season 3, episode 4 titled White Mischief, Rishi Ramdani finds himself in serious financial trouble due to a mix of personal and professional mistakes. His problems began due to his careless attitude towards taking risks, both at his job as a market maker at Pierpoint and in his personal life.

At work, Rishi was heavily betting that the British pound would increase in value compared to the U.S. dollar, which they call "long sterling cable." This bet, which is worth £625 million, is much larger than what Pierpoint allows, causing tension with his colleagues and bosses.

Rishi is confident that his bet will succeed because of an upcoming government budget announcement. However, when the announcement favors the wealthy by reducing their taxes, the value of the pound unexpectedly drops, putting Pierpoint at risk of huge losses.

On a personal level, Rishi's increasing addiction to gambling and drugs exacerbates his financial problems. He owes thousands of pounds not just because of his new house and baby, but also because of his cocaine use and gambling problem.

Viewers see that his old school friend Vinay comes to his house to collect what he owes, adding more stress to his already difficult situation. At the same time, Rishi is having a tough time fitting in with the wealthy people in his new neighborhood, where he's constantly looked down on, which makes him even more desperate to prove himself to his wife Diana's high-class friends.

This need for approval only pushes him further into financial trouble, causing Rishi to make more and more unwise decisions in an attempt to regain his lost status and self-esteem.

Rishi's problem comes from his constant need for approval and belonging, both at work and in his personal life. He can't stop taking risks, and his desire to fit in and unwillingness to face his growing financial troubles, lead to a big mess.

This episode shows Rishi acting careless and vulnerable, standing on the edge of a complete breakdown, all because he can't get enough of keeping his "legend" image, even when everything around him is falling apart.
