Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel to the series Dexter, explores the transformation of the titular character into an avenging serial killer. It is set fifteen years before the events portrayed in the original series and shows Dexter's younger days as a freshly hired forensic intern at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The prequel series had a single-episode premiere on December 13, 2024, on Paramount+ with Showtime cable network. The same became available on Showtime on December 15, 2024. Though many characters from the original series returned in the prequel series, the absence of Brian Moser was noted by the fans.
Although an adult Brian Moser has not appeared in Dexter: Original Sin so far, episode 4 includes a flashback featuring his childhood version. Additionally, fans have speculated that a character resembling Brian is seen in episode 2. Read on to learn more about these instances from the show.
Fans think Brian made a quick appearance in episode 2
Dexter: Original Sin's episode 2, titled Kid in a Candy Store, features a scene that shows the titular character having lunch at a restaurant with Masuka, Batista, and Watt. At this moment, a man (played by Roby Attal) walks up to him and asks him if the seat beside Dexter's is taken.
Dexter replies that the seats around are occupied by his friends who are currently talking to someone. Hearing this, the unnamed person walks away. Though the name of the person is not revealed in the episode, his appearance and demeanor have convinced fans that he is Brian Moser, after all.
A Reddit user noted:
"That has to be Brian. I recognize that fashion sense anywhere"
“We don’t know for sure, but the parallels are too much to be ignored in my opinion,” said another fan.
Thus, while it is not known for sure that it was Brian Moser who made the cameo in Dexter: Original Sin episode 2, it is suggestive that fans of the show unanimously think it was Brian.
A child version of the character is seen in episode 4
While Brian Moser's identity is not assuredly discernible in episode 2, Dexter: Original Sin's episode 4, titled Fender Bender, shows a child-version of the character. Laura Moser, the eponymous character's biological mother, is seen in the prequel series. She serves as a criminal informant to Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father.
Around ten minutes into episode 4, a flashback scene starts, showing Laura worried. She is supposed to meet a crucial member of Hector Estrada's cartel and extract information that will help Morgan, but the babysitter is not available. Morgan offers to babysit little Dexter and Brian instead.
The scene subtly teases Brian's cruel nature. He harms a lizard and derives sadistic pleasure from it, and Morgan has a tough time managing the two kids. Thus, Brian Moser makes a certain appearance in episode 4, though the story's pivotal events have not yet unfolded in the narrative.
