Frasier season 3 has been officially canceled by Paramount+, Deadline reported on January 17, 2025. As per the same report, the show's producer CBS Studios is in talks with Prime Video and Hulu to continue the show on their streaming platforms. Both Prime Video and Hulu feature all episodes of the show's original run from 1993 to 2004.

The revival series premiered its first season on October 12, 2023, followed by its second season on September 19, 2024, on Paramount+. Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli served as the show's developers and showrunners. The comedy series was executive produced by Tom Russo, Jordan McMahon, along with its lead star Kelsey Grammer.

The show's official synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads:

"Frasier is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill; Frasier has re-entered the building."

Why did Frasier season 3 get canceled?

News of Frasier season 3's cancellation comes nearly two months after the second season aired its finale on November 14, 2024. It must be noted that Paramount+ did not offer any specific reason for canceling the show after two seasons. However, its average performance is likely a factor in their decision to not go ahead with Frasier season 3.

The original Frasier aired on NBC for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004 and was widely popular at the time. However, the reboot has failed to capture the magic of the original series and was met with mixed reviews by critics and audiences upon its release. It scored a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus being that the sequel does not "quite compare to the classic original series."

Frasier was the only multi-camera sitcom and one of the two original comedy shows on Paramount+. The other being Colin from Accounts, a single-camera Australian comedy series that premiered in 2022. As its viewership remained mostly the same over two seasons, it’s likely why Paramount+ did not give a series order for Frasier season 3.

However, Frasier season 3 could still happen on a different network in the near future if it gets picked up by another network.

What is the reboot Frasier about?

Paramount+ had given Frasier a 10-episode order for season 1 in October 2022. The television veteran James Burrows was brought back to direct the first two episodes of season 1, as he had directed several episodes during the show's original run.

The revival series centers on its titular psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane, who returns to Boston to reconnect with his son Frederick 'Freddy' Crane, a firefighter. After ending his famous radio talk show in Seattle, he takes up a position at Harvard University as the lecturer of psychology. The series focuses on Frasier embarking on a new chapter of his life as he builds new friendships and relationships in Boston.

The 2023 series features Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Anders Keith as his nephew David Crane (Niles and Daphne's son), Nicholas Lyndhurst as his colleague Professor Alan Cornwall, Toks Olagundoye as the head of Harvard's psychology department Olivia Finch, and Jess Salgueiro as Freddy's neighbor Eve.

The series also includes the return of several characters from the original series in guest roles. Bebe Neuwirth reprises her role as Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith Sternin, Peri Gilpin as his close friend Roz Doyle, Harriet Sansom Harris as his agent Bebe Glazer, Dan Butler as the sports host Bob 'Bulldog' Briscoe, and Edward Hibbert as the food critic Gil Chesterton.

Furthermore, David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves, who played Frasier's brother Niles Crane and sister-in-law Daphne Moon respectively, are noticeably absent as both decided not to return for the revival series.

Kelsey Grammer first played the character in the 1980s sitcom Cheers starring Ted Danson. He went on to star in his own spin-off series Frasier for 11 seasons in the 1990s.
