The series is based on Harlan Coben's first novel in the Mickey Bolitar series, which was published in 2011. The author himself, along with Charlotte Coben developed the series, which was released on August 18, 2023.

"I’ve always [thought] that most of my shows are miniseries/standalones where you get all the answers."
On the other hand, the author and creator Harlan Coben, had signed a multi-million dollar deal of five years with Netflix in 2018, which was extended for 4 more years in 2022. The deal says that Netflix will reserve the rights to develop fourteen of Coben's novels for adaptation into movies and series.
