In Chapter 4, the titular hitman defeats the Marquis of the High Table, eventually attaining freedom from the organization. The upcoming series is supposed to pick up the story from there.

As per a report published by The Hollywood Reporter on August 5, 2024, the logline of the upcoming series reads:

“John Wick has left the world of the High Table in a tenuous position and a collection of new characters will look to make a name for themselves while some of the franchise stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order.”

It continues:

“The series will combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age.”

In Chapter 4, after the climactic showdown between Caine and Wick, the latter shoots the Marquis, killing him instantly. The results of this are multifarious. Both Caine and Wick are given the freedom to walk out of the organization, and Winston is reinstated as the Hotel Manager of the New York Continental, which will soon be rebuilt.

However, the last movie of the popular franchise ends on an ambiguous note, as viewers are shown Winston grieving over a seemingly dead Wick. Fans have been wondering, “Is John Wick really dead?” The film does not provide a clear answer to this.

So far, no information is available on whether the titular character of the franchise will return in the upcoming series. Chapter 4 ends with a post-credits scene, showing Caine being approached by a vengeful Akira, whose father he had killed. This might have been a teaser for the series.

One thing, however, is certain: the enigmatic Continental organization of highly skilled assassins, with the High Table overseeing their activities and setting down the rules, is returning, with or without Wick, and this time for the small screen.

The upcoming sequel would not be the first spin-off from the Wick-universe. In 2023, Peacock streamed the miniseries The Continental.

Further, apart from the sequel series, at least two other projects set in the Wick-universe are on the cards. These include a 2025 film called Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, and another film focusing on Caine, Donnie Yen’s character.
