Plot summary
In Landman, Tommy Norris works as a crisis management executive for the oil company M-Tex, led by the oil titan Monty Miller. In the first episode, the company's stolen airplane accidentally collides with a TTP oil tanker, leading to a massive explosion that claims the lives of many individuals.
Tommy becomes responsible for cleaning up the mess and speaks to the lawyer Rebecca Falcone, an expert in the causation of liability, about his handling of the situation. He has spent his career dealing with the challenges and unpredictability of the oil rigging business, where fortunes can be made and lost in a second.
Also, in the first episode, Tommy's son Cooper starts his first day on an oil rig with dreams of becoming an oil CEO like Monty Miller someday. However, the episode ends with Cooper surviving a massive explosion caused by faulty equipment that kills three members of his crew.
While working on his second job, Cooper meets and falls for the recently widowed Ariana, whose husband Elvio died in the oil rig explosion. His closeness to Ariana comes to the attention of Elvio's cousin brother, Manuel. He and Antonio decide to teach him a lesson by beating Cooper within an inch of his life.
As Cooper recuperates in the hospital, his father and Sheriff Walt avenge the former's assault before arresting Manuel and Antonio. Cooper decides to stay with Ariana after getting discharged, to the dismay of his parents and sister.
Tommy's 17-year-old daughter Ainsley arrives in West Texas to stay with her father. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Dakota does not remain single for long. She meets quarterback Ryder Simpson at a patch party soon after.
Meanwhile, Tommy and his ex-wife Angela rekindle their relationship despite the latter's marriage to Victor. She ends her marriage with Victor, and the couple gives their family another try despite Tommy's reservations.
