Dexter: Resurrection was officially announced at the San Diego Comic-Con, and this left fans with more hope to see their favorite killer again on the screens. Dexter: Resurrection will be a sequel to the series Dexter: New Blood, which ended in 2021. Michael C. Hall, whom viewers have seen as the original face of Dexter from the previous two decades, was killed in this show.
This death felt like a farewell to this character until Clyde Phillips, the showrunner, announced that there would be a prequel delving into the stories that shaped the killer. The show would be named Dexter: Original Sin, and the team announced the return of Michael C. Hall. Hall will act as a narrator in this series to describe his life as a young man, and it is all set to release in December 2024.
During its promotion at the San Diego Comic-Con, the team came up with an unexpected surprise. The team came with an announcement that Michael C. Hall will be reprising his role as Dexter in the new series Dexter: Resurrection. This series will take up the story that ended in Dexter: New Blood and bring criminal serial killers for justice back again. Dexter: Resurrection is set to release in 2025.
What to expect from Dexter: Original Sin and Dexter: Resurrection
In an article published on July 26, 2024, Deadline covered the event when Michael C. Hall made his appearance along with the entire team in Ballroom 20. It was the promotion of the prequel series, so Dexter made his appearance with Patrick Gibson. The role of young Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin would be played by him.
The prequel is set in 1990s Miami, where fans will see how the young student was turned into a serial killer. Dexter is someone who had a thirst for blood for a long time. His father, Harry, knew about it and shaped him to use his inner demons to help other people. Dexter then goes on a mission to kill criminals who escaped with their crimes under the nose of the law. The series will explore his beginning days as a forensics intern for the Miami Metro Police Department.
As per Deadline, Michael C. Hall appeared during the announcement of Dexter: Original Sin. He got heartfelt applause from all the fans as he said,
"It's pretty heady."
He adds,
"I'm having flashbacks of the first time I came to Comic-Con. We were in this hall. That was … 75 years ago? It's amazing to still be alive. I cannot wait to watch this show. To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming. I've spent so much time with this character, and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show … It's amazing."
As reported by Variety, along with Hall, the panel included the show's creator, Clyde Phillips, and its executive producer, Scott Reynolds. It also included Patrick Gibson, the actor playing young Dexter, Christian Slater, and Molly Brown. Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom audiences have known from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997), served as the mediator of the event.
Harrison, the son of Dexter, murdered his father, and that leads to the ending of Dexter: New Blood. With the announcement of Dexter: Resurrection, fans are left wondering if he was murdered. Though the panel didn't give any detailed announcements about the inner details of the plot, it is sure to air next summer. It would be much more interesting to see how the genius serial killer for justice makes his comeback from the dead.
