Paul spoke about the significance of the fight with Sports Illustrated on October 16, 2024, a month before the scheduled event:

"If you love the sport of boxing and you did have the opportunity to fight a legend, it is an honor to step into there with one of the three biggest legends in the history sport. I think I TKO or KO him in round four or five."

Additionally, Netflix released the documentary Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson in the last week leading up to the boxing match to build on the event's anticipation.

Mike Tyson slaps his opponent ahead of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight

On November 14, 2024, a day before the Friday night fight, the two men nearly came to blows at the weigh-in event that was broadcast live.

They arrived at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, and stepped on the scale, with Paul weighing 227 pounds and Tyson weighing 228.4 pounds. After their official weigh-in, Iron Mike approached Paul for a final face-off and slapped him across the face before being separated by security personnel.

Instead of reacting angrily, Paul started laughing, clapping, and blowing kisses at his opponent. He later responded to the slap by saying:

"I didn't even feel it. He's an angry little elf. Mike Tyson, I thought that was a cute slap, buddy, but tomorrow you're getting knocked the f**k out.... He must die."

Before Tyson stormed off the stage, he told journalist Ariel Helwani, "Talking is over."
