The Accident is an emotionally rich and realistic depiction of a tragedy, and fans of the series have been wondering if it is based on a true story. The 10-episode series was written by Leonardo Padrón and is not based on a true story.

Netflix's The Accident is a work of fiction

In an article published by Tudum on August 22, 2024, it has been clarified that the drama series is neither based on a book nor inspired by real-life events. The original screenplay of the series has been penned by Leonardo Padrón, who previously created and wrote the Netflix show The Marked Heart.

Even though the series is not based on a true story, its subject and treatment of the subject are realistic. The series opens with a happy couple throwing a birthday party for their young son. The celebration is set to be an opportunity for the community members to come together and have a good time.

However, the weather soon turns dangerous. In fact, it becomes so violent that it claims the lives of 3 children, with another one going missing. When the full implication of the tragedy dawns upon the parents, they react by blaming each other and themselves.
