With the rumored development of the new, The Punisher series has created excitement among fans. Whether or not the rumors are true, Marvel's potential plans to revive this iconic character are something to keep an eye on.

On January 4, 2025, industry insider Daniel Ritchman, aka DanielRPK on X, stirred excitement among fans by mentioning that a new The Punisher series is in the works by Marvel Studios. However, there has been no official confirmation from Marvel regarding this development yet.

Even with no official announcements, the news has sparked debates and speculations across fan communities.

The previous seasons follow Frank Castle, a former Marine whose family is brutally murdered. Frank becomes "The Punisher" to avenge his wrongs. Frank uncovers a massive government-criminal conspiracy throughout the series.

The Punisher: A glimpse of the previous season

As Daniel Richtman recently stated, the new series does not yet have a confirmed release date, even though The Punisher has become very popular. In terms of when the show might start, Marvel Studios has not yet given any information. Fans will likely have to until more information comes out.

Since March 2022, when Netflix took down Marvel's shows, you can now stream the old seasons of The Punisher on Disney+. As much as people are excited about the rumor of a new series, Marvel has not yet disclosed any information regarding the shoot, release date or cast.

In the Disney+ series, a former Force Recon Marine named Frank Castle is devastated when a criminal organization kills his wife and children. Frank becomes 'The Punisher' to avenge his family's death.

The first season begins with Frank uncovering a conspiracy larger than the mob that killed his family. He discovers that corrupt CIA officials, led by Rawlins (Paul Schulze), and criminal organizations are acting illegally. Frank starts out for personal revenge but uncovers widespread corruption.

He gets intelligence from former NSA analyst David Lieberman (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who fakes Frank's death. The first season's main antagonist is Billy Russo (Ben Barnes), Frank's former friend who becomes Jigsaw after Frank severely injures him in a fight.

Frank is trying to move on from his violent past and live a quieter road life in the second season. His plans are disrupted when he meets Amy Bendix (Giorgia Whigham), a young woman being pursued by dangerous killers. Frank returns to violence to protect Amy.

Former criminal turned religious extremist John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart) opposes him and Billy Russo, disfigured and unstable, wants revenge on Frank. Frank struggles with his identity and the psychological effects of his violence throughout the season.

An anticipated cast list of the new series if it comes

If there really is a new show in the works, Jon Bernthal will almost certainly play Frank Castle again, since he has a strong connection to the character. It has become famous for Bernthal's performance as the tortured vigilante. Based on the success of the last season, the following cast members are also anticipated to return, reprising their characters from the previous seasons:

  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman / Micro
  • Ben Barnes as Billy Russo / Jigsaw
  • Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani
  • Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
  • Paul Schulze as William Rawlins III / Agent Orange
  • Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein
  • Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim

Other members of the original cast, such as Jason R. Moore and Jaime Ray Newman, may also make an appearance if the new series ties into the established narrative of Frank Castle’s journey.

The Punisher is available to stream on Disney+.
