Squid Game season 2 is one of the most awaited Netflix series seasons of all time. The first season of the massively popular South Korean drama thriller series was the most-watched series on the platform, attracting more than 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks. The series won prestigious international awards, including Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Primetime Emmy Award.
Squid Game was about 456 unfortunate people dealing with financial hardship who were invited to play a series of games in a secret facility. The fortunate winner gets 45.6 South Korean won, but the rest will die.
The season ended with Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, winning the prize and leaving the country to see his daughter. But at the last moment, he decides to stay, determined to end the deadly game, despite a warning from the secret organizers.
Seong Gi-hun returns to play in Squid Game Season 2
Netflix released the official teaser for Squid Game season 2 on November 1, 2024. The teaser revealed that the deadly survival game has started again, with new participants. However, one common factor in this and the previous games is Seong Gi-hun.
The timid gambler who went through multiple life-or-death contests to win the amount of 45.6 billion South Korean won in the first season is back in the arena after he gave up on going to the United States in the final scene of last season. He is determined to end the sinister games that put desperate humans against one another to kill and survive.
In the teaser, we can see that a new set of participants have entered the arena, oblivious that if they lose, they die. Seong Gi-hun can be seen trying to warn other players about the nature of the contest and persuading them not to play. However, it is clear that the games will continue as before, and Seong Gi-hun will also be a participant.
