A year ago, Hulu came up with Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, a true-crime documentary based on the shocking true story of Spencer Herron, who was seemingly the perfect husband and professional but turned out to be a serial predator. This month, Hulu will come up with a sequel to the famed true-crime documentary, titled Betrayal: A Father's Secret.

One of the most appealing aspects of the original documentary was that it was told from the perspective of his wife, Jenifer Faison, who lived with Spencer Herron for years but failed to identify his tendencies. The sequel is also expected to follow a similar pattern.

Spencer Herron's case, which saw the teacher manipulate and s*xually assault multiple young women, who were also his students, was ultimately caught in 2018, following which he pleaded guilty to the offense and was sentenced to five years in prison along with 15 more years of probation.

As of today, Spencer Herron has been released from prison after serving his term till July 28, 2022. He remains under probation and out of the public eye, though.

Who was Spencer Herron, and what did he do?

Spencer Herron was a seemingly ordinary resident of Georgia with a wife and a stable life. However, behind the mask of a reputed and respected teacher at Kell High School, he harbored a dark secret.

Over several years as a teacher, Herron groomed and assaulted several young girls, exploiting the power of his authority. He was allegedly also a teacher who participated actively in clubs, which gave him better access to his victims. His conduct went on for several years before the victims came forward and the police got involved.

In 2018, Jenifer Faison returned from her work to find her husband with a search warrant, which also mentioned s*xual assault. That came as a huge shock to Faison, who till the time didn't have an idea about her husband's double life as a predator.

Apart from his multiple counts of assault, Herron also allegedly had many affairs behind his wife's back over the years, a discovery she made after Herron was arrested.

While looking through his computer, Jenifer Faison reportedly found meticulous records of multiple affairs the man has had, with his first instance of cheating taking place in the first week of their marriage.

Herron was immediately arrested and later confessed to five counts of s*xual assault. He was eventually sentenced to five years in prison with 15 years of probation, according to most sources. However, Georgia Department of Corrections has claimed that the sentence was actually for six years.

As per reports from The Georgia Department of Corrections, Herron was released from prison on July 28, 2022. As per the terms of his sentence, he's still under probation and will remain under probation for some time to come.

According to the documentary, Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, Herron went to live with his family after he was released from the prison. Jenifer had divorced him 2019 shortly after his conviction and has now moved on with her life.

Spencer Herron remains off the radar as of now, and it's unlikely that he will ever step into the public eye again.

Hulu's Betrayal: The Perfect Husband covers this case in more detail. The next installment, Betrayal: A Father's Secret will release on July 30, 2024.
