On Thursday, August 22, 2024, The Drew Barrymore Show received an early greenlight for season 6 from CBS, which means the syndicated show is confirmed to be on air at least till 2026. The renewal news came just weeks ahead of the show's fifth season premiere on September 9, 2024.
Wendy McMahon, the president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, gave the following statement during the renewal announcement:
“Drew is a one-of-a-kind talent who is an integral part of the CBS and Paramount family. This early renewal and upgrades are a testament to our commitment to ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ and its loyal audience, who tune in every day to see Drew’s warmth, inquisitiveness and spontaneity.”
The talk show is soaring in ratings
Also known as Drew, the talk show changed its format and upgraded its time slots this year to account for its growing popularity. It now airs its 30-minute episodes either back-to-back or separately on various stations across the country.
On the television stations WCBS New York, WBZ Boston and KTVT Dallas, Drew airs two back-to-back episodes at 9 am after CBS Mornings. The show also takes a full-hour block at 3 p.m. on the KYW Philadelphia, WFOR Miami and KPIX San Francisco stations. It airs for 60 minutes at the KPRC station in Houston in a new time slot at 10 am.
Drew faced controversy amidst the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, which led to the departure of three writers from the show's team. Nevertheless, the talk show recorded high ratings in 2024. In the year's first quarter, the show's viewership grew by 8 percent compared to the last quarter of 2023.
More good news followed later in the year, as season 5 recorded a 21% jump in ratings in markets where it aired at 9 a,m., following CBS Mornings. Furthermore, CBS reported that Drew averaged 1.1 million viewers in its fifth season, with almost six billion minutes of the show being watched in total.
The series has also marked an impressive reach on digital and social platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Drew Barrymore is joined on the show by a group of celebrities, known as the Drew Crew, who offer audiences fun takeaways and tips on their subject of expertise.
The Drew Crew includes celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, interior designer Mikel Welch, chef Pilar Valdes, fashion and beauty expert Zanna Roberts Rassi and the sustainable living guru Danny Seo. The crew added Valerie Bertinelli as a lifestyle expert in season 5.
