The identity of the Zodiac Killer has long been a topic of conversation, and it seems that this discussion is unlikely to fade away anytime soon. The unidentified serial killer operated in Northern California in the late 1960s.
Most recently, discussions about the notorious serial killer have emerged on Reddit, where individuals are theorizing that there may be more to the curious personality than what is known in popular culture. These theories insinuate that the killings were not a one-man job but rather the result of a group effort, or at least two people.
This perspective starkly contrasts what was emphasized in Netflix's recent release, This Is the Zodiac Speaking, which centers on Arthur Leigh Allen being the main suspect in the case.
Concerning the discussions on Reddit, a user wrote on the platform:
"If the zodiac was one guy, then it's not him. However, if he was involved, then there has to be more than one zodiac."
Redditors debunk the theory of Arthur Leigh Allen being the sole Zodiac Killer
After the trailer for This Is the Zodiac Speaking was released on Netflix’s official YouTube page, numerous individuals on the internet began engaging in detailed conversations surrounding the topic of the documentary.
The three-part docuseries explores Arthur Leigh Allen as the main suspect in the Zodiac killings case, prompting several people to question the various aspects related to it.
On Reddit, as previously mentioned, most believed that Arthur Leigh Allen was not the Zodiac Killer. Additionally, some also believed that if he had anything to do with the killings, then he was likely not the sole perpetrator and that others may have been involved as well.
"I do not believe Arthur Leigh Allen was the zodiac killer. His fingerprints didn’t match those found at the Paul Stine murder scene, his handwriting was vastly different from the handwriting on the zodiac letters. His dna didn’t match the saliva on the stamps used to mail the letters. Allen was a sick guy but he wasn’t the zodiac killer," wrote one user on the platform.
"Personally, I don’t think ANY of the suggested suspects was the Zodiac. I also suspect the killings stopped because the real Zodiac killer either died or was incapacitated in some way (like paralyzed)," commented another user.
"It was definitely more than one guy," stated one Reddit user.
Who were the other people suspected of being the Zodiac Killer?
Besides Arthur Leigh Allen, the other people who were suspected of being associated with the Zodiac killings include:
- Earl Van Best Jr.
- Giuseppe Bevilacqua
- Lawrence Kane
- Gary Francis Poste
- Paul Doerr
- Richard Marshall
- Ross Sullivan
- Richard Gaikowski
Apart from the above, there were some other people whose names came up as being the infamous serial killer, but they were cleared. These included high-profile criminals like Charles Manson, The Manson Family, and Ted Bundy. Ted Kaczynski, who was often referred to as the Unabomber, was also cleared for the Zodiac killings after an initial inquiry.
How many people are believed to have been victims of the Zodiac killings?
It is believed that the Zodiac Killer killed approximately 37 people, based on a letter he had circulated, admitting to his crimes. Among them, based on police investigations, only 5 deaths could be confirmed while 2 were concluded as being injured. The span of his crimes was between 1968 to 1969, and police records estimate that he killed at least 20 to 28 people during his years of activity.
