Plot summary and cast

The supernatural series revolves around a young Chinese-American teenager named Jentry Chau (Ali Wong), who discovers on her 16th birthday that she is being chased by Cheng and a demon named Mogui for her magical powers. She returns to Texas with her great-aunt Gugu (Lori Tan Chinn) to fight against the demon and monsters from the underworld.

Jentry had repressed her fire powers for several years after accidentally starting a fire in her hometown of Riverfork, Texas as an 8-year-old child. She saw her powers as a curse that brought misery to her loved ones and stopped her from living a normal life. But, she learns to accept her powers as a part of herself by the end of the series.

Additionally, Jentry has to navigate friendships and romance as a teenager while studying at the Riverfork High School. Her love triangle with Michael (AJ Beckles) and Kit (Woosu ng Kim) plays out amidst her fight against the supernatural creatures. She also reconnects with her long-lost mother Moonie and comes to accept her parents' dubious past that changed her family's life forever.
