Netflix is set to launch its highly anticipated series Kaos, a modern reimagining of Greek mythology with a darkly comedic twist. Created by Charlie Covell, this show promises to deliver a fresh perspective on the age-old tales of gods and mortals, blending humor, drama, and mythology into a captivating narrative. At the heart of this series is an ensemble of talented actors who bring these legendary characters to life in ways that are both familiar and refreshingly new.
As Kaos prepares to make its debut on August 29, here's a closer look at the full cast of the series, exploring the characters they portray and the unique interpretations that each actor brings to these iconic roles.
Kaos: Full cast list
Jeff Goldblum as Zeus
In Kaos, Jeff Goldblum plays Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus is depicted as a mastermind megalomaniac obsessed with maintaining power, but he also struggles with mental issues due to an ancient prophecy he believes threatens his throne.
Goldblum is well-known for films such as Jurassic Park, Independence Day, The Fly, and Thor: Ragnarok.
Janet McTeer as Hera
In Kaos, Janet McTeer plays Hera, Zeus's wife (and sister), who is a powerful and manipulative character. Hera loves her husband but fears for her safety due to his growing paranoia.
McTeer, known for roles in Ozark, Me Before You, The Menu, and The Exception, brings depth to Hera's complicated personality.
David Thewlis as Hades
In Kaos, David Thewlis plays Hades, Zeus's younger brother and the god of the underworld. Hades is portrayed as a responsible ruler who takes Zeus's prophecy seriously, making him seem dark and somewhat pitiful as he struggles with his duties and family issues.
The rare moments of genuine love between Hades and Persephone are precious to him. Thewlis is well-known for playing Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series and has appeared in films like The Artful Dodger, Dragonheart, and Total Eclipse.
Rakie Ayola as Persephone
Rakie Ayola stars in Kaos as Persephone, wife to Hades and queen of the underworld, however, she is not portrayed here as a traditional victim like how it has always been done before. Ayola’s take on Persephone reflects an intelligent woman able to see through her dysfunctional marriage but still chooses to stay with Hades because she deeply loves him.
By challenging old myths about this character, her role adds some freshness to it which has historically been considered passive. Rakie Ayola has also featured in The Pact, Grace, Anthony, Maisie Raine and more.
Cliff Curtis plays Poseidon
Cliff Curtis is cast to play Poseidon, the god of the sea and Zeus’ younger sibling. He is not as serious as his other siblings but rather enjoys a luxurious life on board a yacht. However, Zeus’s growing paranoia interrupts this idyllic existence, dragging him into the escalating conflict.
A hybrid of power and charm, Curtis’s Poseidon becomes a unique character who brings a different energy into the divinity of family relationships. Cliff Curtis has been a part of The Meg, The Meg 2, Risen, Avatar 2 and more.
Stephen Dillane as Prometheus
Stephen Dillane portrays Prometheus who is Zeus’s oldest friend and one of the major characters in the series. Being punished by Zeus for stealing fire from heaven and giving it to humans, Prometheus is doomed to eternally suffer chained up to a rock.
Through all his suffering, however, Prometheus is central to the plot against Zeus representing a battle between divine power and human freedom. Apart from being a part of GoT, he has also featured in The Tunnel, Outlaw King, Darkest Hour and more.
Aurora Perrineau as Riddy (Eurydice)
Aurora Perrineau appears as Riddy instead of Eurydice from Greek mythology being reimagined in modern terms. In Kaos, she is married to a famous musician Orpheus but feels that her own life has no meaning or purpose.
Perrineau takes an introspective approach with Riddy focusing on exploring her identity and purpose while amidst gods’ chaos around her. For the unversed, Aurora Perrineau has been a part of shows and movies like Jem and The Holograms, Prodigal Son, Into The Dark and more.
Killian Scott as Orpheus
In Kaos, Killian Scott plays Orpheus, a rock star with a huge ego. After losing his wife, Riddy, he undergoes a dramatic life change, forcing him to confront the limits of his power and fame.
Scott captures both sides of Orpheus: charisma and flaws; hence, becoming a mythological figure that contemporary audiences can relate to. Killian Scott is an Irish actor and has been a part of shows and movies like Dublin Murders, Traders, Damnation, Cavalry and more.
For the unversed, Kaos is releasing on Netflix on 29 August 2024.
