Netflix is gearing up to launch Kaos, a fresh and exciting take on Greek mythology, created by Charlie Covell. This upcoming series promises to be a dark comedy that brings a modern twist to ancient tales. With Jeff Goldblum leading the cast as Zeus, the series delves into the complexities of power, love, and life in the underworld.

Kaos stands out not just for its intriguing premise but also for its star-studded cast and creative reinterpretation of familiar myths. The series explores the lives of gods and mortals alike, offering a new perspective on the classic stories we've come to know. With the release date just around the corner, here's everything you need to know about Kaos, including its release date, trailer, and what to expect from this much-anticipated show.

Release date & time for Kaos

Netflix has announced that Kaos will be released on August 29, 2024. The show will most likely drop globally on this day consisting of eight episodes available for binge-watching. As usual with Netflix releases, the show should be available starting midnight Pacific Time (PT), so fans can start watching as soon as it’s aired.

Trailer for Kaos

Netflix has already teased fans with a short clip from the first episode of Kaos. This video hints at a radically altered view of ancient Greek myths blended with dark humor typical for the best slapstick comedies. It becomes quite evident from the very first seconds that this isn’t a traditional retelling of antique legends.

Instead, it builds a world in which gods have almost as many flaws and complexities as humans they preside over. Especially striking is Jeff Goldblum playing Zeus, who is described as omnipotent, but he appears to have severe paranoia syndrome, imagining himself surrounded by sycophantic cronies who will betray him at the slightest hint of vulnerability.

The trailer also suggests that throughout the series there is a major storyline involving a prophecy that could potentially end Zeus’ reign. Meanwhile, Zeus gets crazier, and then viewers are introduced to other gods and mortals who will be central in this grand tale. The whole tone is both dark and funny, promising an amusing as well as thought-provoking series.

What to expect and more from

It isn’t another mythical show; it’s a contemporary twist on ancient themes. So much happens after Zeus notices a wrinkle on his forehead and becomes increasingly paranoid about its nature which he interprets as signaling the end of his rule. This leads to many confrontations between gods and humans leading to possible annihilation of the world.

Zeus played by Jeff Goldblum has the main role out of all characters, Janet McTeer appears as Hera, his wife while David Thewlis personifies Hades, the ruler of the underworld. Other important members of the cast include Cliff Curtis playing Poseidon, Killian Scott appearing in Orpheus’s role, and Debi Mazar being Medusa. The multi-talented group enhances each character’s portrayal with depth and nuance ensuring that every single one is represented authentically.

Expectations for the series are that it will explore themes of betrayal, redemption, and power struggles. Prometheus plans to dethrone Zeus and humans, discovering their integratedness into ancient prophecies.

The title has been chosen to illustrate this theme of disorder and transformation. It follows from the idea that out of chaos new worlds and possibilities emerge drawing from primordial chaos found in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Chaos as both destructive agent and creative force is central to the series, thus providing viewers with an alternative perspective on Greek gods.

Be sure to mark your calendars for August 29, 2024, and get ready to enter the world of Kaos.
