The message had stoked so much debate and speculations that to this day, Taylor's case remains one of the most intriguing mystery cases.

5 Key facts about Granger Taylor's sudden disappearance

1) The Note and the Map

Granger Taylor had written a note on the door of his stepfather on the eve of his disappearance. The note was one in which he claimed he was leaving to board an alien spacecraft and would return after 42 months.

Along with the note, a hand-drawn map of Waterloo Mountain near the family's farm was attached. This map set off wide searches in the area but still did not help in yielding any clues.

2) The stormy night

Taylor disappeared during a storm on November 29, 1980. The threatening weather was caused by heavy rain and high winds. This background of stormy weather alone made it difficult for the search parties to identify any traces of him and even his truck immediately after he vanished.

3) Truck parts and bones

In 1986, six years after Granger Taylor's disappearance, parts of his truck and human bones were discovered on Mount Prevost. The bones had been located at a blast site, so there was evidence of an explosion.

Although DNA testing was not established back then, the coroner's office concluded the bones belonged to Taylor based on pathology work and his mother identifying his clothing.

4) The mysterious explosion

Another important lead is the mysterious explosion that may have been what killed Taylor. The site where his truck bits and bones were found indicated a powerful explosion. However, how it happened is still unknown. Some believe it may have been an accident involving dynamite, which he used for some of the mechanical projects he was involved in.

Others feel that it might be a deliberate accident by either Taylor himself or by some mysterious body. This mysterious explosion deepens the mystery surrounding this case even further.

5) Official death declaration

Despite the lack of conclusive proof, the B.C. Coroners office declared Granger Taylor dead on November 30, 1986. The truck parts and bones found led to the assumption of his death in the explosion by the authorities.

However, some of his close friends and relatives raised doubts, considering the evidence was too weak to determine the case.

Granger Taylor's case remains an unsolved affair. The clues include the interstellar journey note from him, the stormy night on which he vanished, truck fragments and bones discovered, and so many theories regarding his end, but there are still no substantial findings.

Those who want to know more about the case can tune into Out There: Crimes of the Paranormal, streaming on Hulu.
