He then slowed down the car at the request of his wife, who handed the homeless woman money through the passenger window. That's when a man who was with the panhandler stabbed Jacquelyn through the open window. He snatched her necklace and wallet and fled the scene.
Smith's tale made nationwide headlines as fears arose about the dangers of handing money to people on the street. However, the truth was that Keith Smith had committed the murder. He presented the killing of Jacquelyn as a random act of violence just to avoid the blame.
Investigation
