Kleo season 2 was released on Netflix on July 25, 2024. The German-spy comedy series kicked off from where season 1 had ended. While season 1 revolved around the red suitcase that could change the shape of global geopolitics, season 2 continues the mystery, but adds more nuances to Kleo's family background.

The first season revolved around Kleo's search for answers, as she was betrayed by her comrades and agency and sent to prison in 1987. Due to this twist of fate, the eccentric spy lost her unborn child. After getting released in 1990, post the fall of the Berlin Wall, she swore to get revenge and find out the truth.

Kleo season 2 introduced Nikolai, the head of the KGB, who turned out to be Kleo's biological father. She is shocked by this revelation but rejects his offer to join him. She eventually ends up killing him to save Sven and herself.

Kleo's past and complex family relations have been one of the most intriguing parts of this thriller-comedy series. Her past is so intrinsically tied to the geopolitical game of that region that she has no option but to become one of the players, not that she has even shown any hesitation in playing the game.

She is a ruthless killer who humiliates her opponents to assert her dominance. It was obvious that when she was betrayed by her own grandfather, she was bound to take revenge. All this and the mystery of the red suitcase became the main narrative of the first season.

Kleo season 2 introduces Nikolai Zhukov, the new chief of the Russian intelligence department KGB, played by Andrej Kaminsky. It is revealed that he is actually her biological father, who her mother left due to ideological differences.

Not only that, Kleo also finds out that her biological father killed her adoptive father Fabien in front of her eyes, which she had forgotten, perhaps to cope with it psychologically. When Nikolai offers Kleo to join him on the phone, she outright rejects his offer, asserting that he is not her father, her father was Fabien.

The entire season 1 of the series revolved around a red suitcase that was later revealed to contain a legal pact between the United States and the USSR. According to the secret document, Ronald Reagen funded the socialist German Democratic Republic of East Germany secretly, while being the ally of their capitalist opponents, the Federal Republic of Germany of West Germany.

The reason behind this was that the Americans believed that to ensure their control in that region and on FRG, they must have a strong enemy opposing their ideology. This would keep them as the best option for the western Europeans to turn to, in matters of conflict.

Kleo realizes that Nikolai has got his claws on the legal pact. So she and Sven head to Moscow to extract the documents. They disguise themselves as firefighters and manage to steal the pact. But before they could successfully go out, CIA agent Rose stopped them.

CIA agent Rose's mission was also to extract the legal pact before it could be used to blackmail the American government. She points a gun at Kleo and Sven, who are dressed as high-ranking Communist Party officials. Rose offers to tell Kleo something about herself in exchange for the pact that would change her life. However, Kleo wasn't interested in any more revelations. Suddenly Nikolai appeared and shot Rose from behind.

He asked Kleo to join him again and hand over the pact, but she refused. Nikolai didn't hesitate to fire a bullet on her daughter. However, Sven came in between and took the bullet that was meant for Kleo. Enraged, she shot Nikolai, thus avenging the death of her father, Fabien.

Kleo season 2 was released on Netflix on 25 July 2024, and it is available for streaming for fans who have a subscription.
