La Maison season 1 episode 8 dropped on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 1, 2024, giving another behind-the-scenes peek at an iconic French haute couture house. As its climatic conclusion nears, the series ups the ante between Maison LEDU and Rovel's rivalry. It doesn't help that LEDU's artistic designer, Paloma, continues to struggle with her creative plan for her next show.
While Paloma's first LEDU fashion show was successful, her first couture collection proves a different story. She has been struggling to find inspiration, and as soon as she stumbles into one, a problem arises, rendering everything she designed a failure.
Paloma's couture collection for the Maison is still not ready throughout episode 8, titled Sea Change, but an unlikely affair could bring the eureka moment she needs to make her designs stand out. This week's episode follows Zita Hanrot's Paloma trying to reinvent LEDU while the family feels the brunt of the betrayal of one of their own and their rival fashion house making its move.

La Maison season 1 episode 8 sees Paloma struggle with her first couture collection
La Maison season 1 episode 8 started where episode 7 of the French fashion drama left off, with Paloma buzzing about her couture collection.
She's making lace from seaweed, and while her designs are stronger and not easy to rip like the previous ones, her all-black couture gown lacks that wow factor she needs.
Now, she has to go back to the beginning and find out how to make the best couture collection for LEDU using the seaweed laces the Maison artisans have made. She watches footage of her main inspiration — the waves in Brittany, the original birthplace of the fashion house.
Watching a seemingly boring clip of waves in a darkened room appears fruitful; as an idea strikes her. She could recreate the blue hue of the waves in her designs, making them look midnight blue instead of the traditional black color of LEDU couture. So, she goes and tries dyeing the laces, but she can't get the color she wants, as the dye doesn't stick well because the seaweed thread used is biodegradable.
LEDU's head designer is back to square one again, and she's even more frustrated this time. She rants to her friend Ye-Ji about not finding happiness in what she does anymore. And like a supportive friend, Ye-Ji brings her to a club to have some fun and momentarily forget her problems.
While the night ended with Paloma and Ye-Ji fighting, Paloma met a young man she had an affair with.
As the two say goodbye for the night, the light from the man's bicycle and how it reflects and distorts color interests her. In her creative brain, Paloma is thinking of adding embellishments to the lace in her designs to make them look like the midnight blue she's envisioning. The gowns will still be in black, like LEDU has always done, but when light reflects on the designs, they would look like they are a different color.
With her new inspiration in mind, she tasks the Maison to make her vision happen. By the end of La Maison season 1 episode 8, she has a creative plan in place and tells the Maison artisans that she thinks "they have a winner."
Is Paloma and Ye-Ji's friendship over?
Tension between Paloma and Ye-Ji has been brewing for some time. It's especially evident in La Maison episode 6 when Paloma chooses to go to Vincent in Brittany for the holidays instead of spending it with Ye-Ji like she always does.
She was also opposed to Paloma's decision to bring Vincent back to the Maison as a consultant.
In La Maison season 1 episode 8, the brewing tension in their friendship comes to a head when Ye-Ji asks Paloma if she could buy her out of Doppel, the brand they started together.
Ye-Ji doesn't want to work under Paloma at LEDU anymore, where she doesn't really have a say despite Paloma telling her before that they would be working as a team.
Paloma, though, doesn't want to let go of her shares in Doppel. She still wants her cut in it despite Ye-Ji pointing out that she now has LEDU.
At one point, Ye-Ji tells Paloma to name her price because she doesn't want to belittle herself anymore just because Paloma appears more talented. Paloma answers that it's not her fault that she's more talented than Ye-Ji, which shocked her friend, who then accuses Paloma that she has now become like them — like the Ledu.
Ye-Ji has been a constant support for Paloma in Maison LEDU, and their argument in La Maison season 1 episode 8 could only lead to two things. It could be friendship over for them, or they could make amends, but the hurtful words they'd told each other mean that their friendship would never be the same.
La Maison season 1 episode 8 sees Caroline making her move
So far, Caroline Rovel has been an underestimated character in the French fashion series. She's someone who's seen but not heard, the daughter of a powerful woman but has no power of her own. However, it won't appear to be the case as La Maison gears towards its conclusion.
In La Maison episode 7, she convinces Lucy, her mother Madame Rovel's trusty guard, to team up with her. In the latest episode, the two of them appear to be on the same team as they investigate what's up with the Rovel matriarch.
They confronted Madame Rovel's "piano teacher." She seems to have the upper hand, as she implies that the man wasn't really a "piano teacher" but works for a doctor who's falsifying Madame Rovel's medical records.
Caroline's conversation with Victor teases that she has "something big on her mother," hence her newfound confidence. At the end of La Maison season 1 episode 8, Caroline also told one of LEDU's investors that she has something to say to the board about her mother's health. Based on her actions, Caroline appears to know about Madame Rovel's brain tumor, which La Maison episode 5 confirmed.
Armed with what she knows, she's ready to take the helm of her mother's empire, the empire Madame Rovel refused to give her because she didn't think that Caroline had the guts for it.
