The plot of Mayfair Witches season 2 is based on Rice's second book Lasher from the Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy. But, the latest season will deviate from the source material, which primarily deals with Lasher, and focus equally on Rowan's storyline.

In February 2023, showrunner Esta Spalding told TVLine that Rowan will play "an active part" in season 2 alongside Lasher. She said:

"In the book, Rowan is riding beside Lasher, and he’s the one driving the story. We need to make a show which is about Rowan.....we’re also going to make Rowan an active part of that story, not just someone who’s beside him having it happen to her."

At the end of season 1, Rowan turned her biological father, Cortland, into stone before giving birth to her son, Lasher. To her surprise, Lasher grows at an alarmingly high rate, making her question whether her son is a human or monster.

When the adult Lasher goes on a rampage, killing the women of Mayfair, Rowan is left with no choice but to assemble her family together to fight the monster she unknowingly unleashed onto the world.
