All episodes of Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2 were released on Netflix on September 12, 2024. The 8-episode second season, like the first one, shows the principal character embroiled in a series of adventures as they use time portals to go to different timelines and perform acts that have momentous personal and public implications.

In the series, the titular Pera Palace acts like a time portal that takes people to different points in the past. The Gateway of Truth is another portal that is known for taking an individual to the exactly desired time in history.

As a result of using the Gateway of Truth and altering the space-time dynamics by a significant margin, Halit’s physical and mental faculties start deteriorating. By the end of season 2 episode 8, he succumbs to his growing physical and psychological decay and dies.

However, the ending also features a cliffhanger that not only points towards a sequel but also suggests that Halit might as well be alive.

Midnight at the Pera Palace Season 2 ending: Halit is dead, for now

One of the chief elements that drives the plot of Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2 forward concerns Halit’s quest to reconcile with Esra, his love. But this is not to be, since they are not from the same timeline originally. Thus, a reunion can have disastrous consequences.

Yet Halit decides to pursue Esra through several timelines and ultimately uses the Gateway of Truth. He also tries to rectify some of his past actions in the process. However, using the Gateway takes a heavy toll on the time traveler, as Ahmet explains.

Halit’s temperament starts showing some changes after he has used the Gateway. Further, his physical health also starts showing signs of decay. In the finale of Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2, he succumbs to his failing health.

The finale shows Halit succeeding in stopping Mumtaz, something he has been trying to do for a long time. However, as Mumtaz breathes his last, Halit too collapses in front of Esra.

The very closing moments of the show, however, show Halit along with several other key characters, all gathered at the Palace. He recognizes Esra as well. This happens because the timelines have got jumbled up, as Ahmet finds out.

What does Ahmet’s final discovery imply?

Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2 ends with a cliffhanger, with Ahmet grasping the fact that, due to being used repeatedly, the portals have distorted space-time to such an extent that the timelines have gotten all mixed up. In other words, several timelines have blended into each other and are co-existing at the moment.

As a result, Halit is seen at the end, even though he is dead. This anomaly in the space-time continuum alarms Ahmet and Esra, and both of them decide that they should travel back in time, once again, to reach the point when it all started—1892.

In 1892, the portal appeared in the Pera Palace due to an earthquake. If Esra and Ahmet can go and alter certain events in the past, the portal probably could be kept secure for the future, thereby preventing its being overused.

Further, Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2 shows that Esra’s twin sister, Peride, is also in 1892. Thus, a reunion is in store if Esra jumps back to that year. A sequel is highly plausible since the story has ample room for future episodes.

Who are Esra’s parents?

The question of Esra’s parentage has been one of the highlights of Midnight at the Pera Palace season 2. The final episode reveals some shocking truths regarding this.

Mumtaz has been planning to kidnap all the free-spirited women of the age and confine them in a train bogie and blow it up. His goal is to establish a strictly patriarchal regime in Turkey where women have no public lives.

Esra enrages Mumtaz and gets herself into the bogie, where she meets Maliha, a journalist Esra has worked with. Maliha is in labor, and before the train can be blown up, she gives birth to two daughters. Esra gradually understands that she is one of the twins, the other being Perida.

Further, the season finale exposes that Esra’s father is none other than Mumtaz. Mumtaz is in the process of taking the two babies along with him to a different timeline, when he is intercepted by Esra and Halit.
