My Adventures with Superman season 2 is off to a huge start, as the series premiere introduced a major new villain. The Ethan Avery version of the DC anti-hero known as Damage has been introduced in the show, and he has given Superman quite a tough time.

Being a member of Task Force X in My Adventures with Superman season 2, this version of Damage is introduced as a full-fledged villain and has quite a few differences from his comic book counterpart. While he is still a brute, from his characterization to how he looks in the series, this is a different take on the character.

Damage can essentially be summed up as being similar to Marvel's Hulk, but My Adventures with Superman season 2 goes a different route by giving him a mechanical body and still being fully in control of his actions.

Exploring the comic book origins of Ethan Avery's Damage

In DC Comics, two different characters share the name Damage; however, the primary focus here will be on the Ethan Avery version of the character, who was created by Robert Venditti and Tony S. Daniel and first appeared in Dark Days: The Casting #1 in September 2017.

Ethan Avery in the comics was a person who grew up idolizing heroes like Superman and the Flash and, as an adult, enrolled in the United States Army because he wanted to be a hero. Later on, he enrolled in the Damage Program and was given a serum that transformed him into a monster for an hour of the day. However, this would also cause him to have no control over his body.

He was then sent on missions for the army, where he transformed into the monster and completely decimated any hostile forces. Ethan would eventually find himself on the run, after he suffered some genetic issues and Amanda Waller's Task Force XI tracked him.

Ethan made quick work of them too, but found himself in a heap of trouble when faced off against Wonder Woman. While Diana proved for a tough battle, Ethan was able to escape her but realized that he had the sights of the Justice League on him and, in the future, tried to course-correct himself by trying to control his monster and go down a heroic path.

How does My Adventures with Superman season 2 add its own spin to Damage

While Damage in the comics can be summed up as being an anti-hero, in My Adventures with Superman season 2, he is introduced as a villain. He is a part of Amanda Waller's Task Force X and battles the Man of Steel when he, Deathstroke, and Waller are scouring Clark's ship to find Kryptonian technology. Clark eventually finds them, which leads to his battle with Damage.

Damage in My Adventures with Superman season 2 looks different too. While in the comics he is a monster, here he has robotic enhancements and grows in size but never turns into a monster. He is also in complete control of his actions, which already makes him quite a different character when compared to the source material. He is eventually defeated in the episode when Jor-El's hologram electrocutes him and knocks him out, but he has made quite a huge impression.

It remains to be seen whether Damage will return in future episodes of My Adventures with Superman season 2, but so far his appearance sets up that Waller is assembling a team to take out Superman. It looks like the villain is set to give the Man of Steel an even tougher time going forward.
