The much-anticipated NCIS: Sydney season 2 is set to premiere on CBS on February 7, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET. The Australian-American collaborative series is the first international spinoff of the NCIS franchise, created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill in 2003.

NCIS: Sydney season 2 continues to blend the dynamics of U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents with the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The series premiered on Paramount+ in Australia on November 10, 2023, and began airing on Network 10 on May 15, 2024.

In the upcoming season, fans can expect new investigations against Australian landscapes, with two special episodes filmed in Darwin and its surrounding areas. The series is created by Morgan O'Neill and produced by Endemol Shine Australia for CBS Studios and Paramount Australia.

As stated above, NCIS: Sydney season 2 will be released on CBS on February 7, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET. The upcoming season will also be available live and on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers. The series, initially slated to premiere on January 31, 2025, was postponed since CBS decided to air a soon-to-be-announced special on January 31.

The team of NCIS: Sydney was formed in the first episode of the series when a joint NCIS/AFP task force was created to solve the murder of a US Navy sailor who died of radiation poisoning.

In an interview with Parade dated January 16, 2025, showrunner Morgan O’Neill talked about what the Australian version of the NCIS franchise entails, saying,

“I think what makes Sydney different is that it has its own rhythm, it has its own tempo. We have a word, larrikinism, which I naively thought was an international word but apparently, it’s not very well known internationally. A larrikin is someone who is naturally mischievous and understatedly funny. Australians have a sense of larrikinism.”

Cast and characters

The main cast members expected to make a return in NCIS: Sydney season 2 are-

  • Olivia Swann as NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey
  • Todd Lasance as AFP Sergeant Jim 'JD' Dempsey
  • Sean Sagar as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson
  • Mavournee Hazel as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird 'Blue' Gleeson

What to expect from NCIS: Sydney season 2?

The logline for the first episode of NCIS: Sydney season 2 titled Heart Starter reads,

"A rogue assassin is on the run, and the NCIS/AFP team will do whatever it takes to crack the case, “even if that means waking the dead….”

The first season finale of NCIS: Sydney, titled Blonde Ambition, intertwined the personal and professional lives of the agents when JD's son, Jack, was abducted by an assassin disguised as a clown. In exchange for Jack's safe return, the kidnapper demanded the release of Ana Niemus, a mercenary in NCIS custody.

JD took Niemus and met with the kidnapper, who actually had an ulterior motive to kill Niemus. In the following altercation, Niemus killed the kidnapper and escaped, leaving JD with a phone linked to Colonel Rankin, setting up a cliffhanger for the next season. Fans can expect the upcoming season to provide answers for Ana Niemus' future confrontation with the team.

In an interview with TVLine on January 21, 2024, Todd Lasance talked about his hopes for his character in NCIS: Sydney season 2. He said,

"I also want to explore the family dynamic side of things. This is a dream series for me because I get to play with the comedy, with that cheeky “ribbing each other” element, and also be the straight cop/leader, and then I get to go with the emotional element of the relationship with the son and my ex-wife and the breakdown of that relationship. The sky’s the limit for us."
