Emily in Paris season 5 is confirmed. Netflix has officially renewed Emily in Paris for a fifth season. The confirmation came just a few days after part two of season 4 aired. This time around, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, finds herself not just in Paris but also right in the heart of Italy, with Rome playing a pretty interesting role in the story.

Series creator Darren Star told Tudum that Emily in Paris season 5 is going to be much more Italy-centered, but much will still be involved with the city of Paris. In this regard, the show is going to expand into Rome.

“We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!” Darren Star said.

The flavor of drama, romance, and cultural trips that characterized the previous seasons will continue with some backdrops being newly set.

A new adventure: Emily takes on Rome

In Emily in Paris season 5, Emily's story will take her from the Parisian streets to the historic city of Rome. The selection of taking the show to Rome is strategic in giving the show a more substantial footprint, according to Star.

In season 4, Emily moved to Italy to open a Rome office for her company, Agence Grateau, and settled in a new apartment. She also began a new romantic relationship with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

While the fifth season will focus on Emily trying to settle into a new workplace in a new city and balance her personal and professional lives together. Series creator Darren Star said,

“Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”

Emily and Marcello's romance to feature in the series

There is much to discover in Emily in Paris season 5 about the increasing relationship between Emily and Marcello, who was introduced in season 4. Their connection was pretty obvious, and the audience can expect such romance to bloom more in the new season.

Series creator Darren Star also confirmed that the fifth season will explore Emily and Marcello's relationship. He said,

“I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

In a conversation with Tudum, Lily Collins spoke about her new on-screen beau and where things might stand with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

Speaking about Gabriel, Collins said that he “has to deal with the repercussions of his choice” to break up with Emily.

Star also spoke about Gabriel and Emily's relationship, or lack thereof, this season in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said that “maybe Emily and Gabriel aren’t meant to be for now.” But the series creator did not indicate this was the end and said that “maybe they will be for later.”

The move to Italy will bring a new backdrop into the new romance, opening up possibilities for the show to explore further the connection.

Season 4 success and expectations in Emily in Paris season 5

The fourth season of Emily in Paris received spectacular views, raking in nearly 20 million in four days. It quickly topped the list on Netflix's Global Top 10 and was at the number one spot consecutively for two weeks.

While also including romantic and professional storylines, season 4 explored more mature themes, such as s**ual harassment in the fashion industry. All of these developments promise to bring more depth to the series, and Emily in Paris season 5 will probably maintain the lighthearted entertainment it has become known for while continuing to explore relevant topics.
