Netflix has been in talks for the last few days, for going through an agreement with BuzzFeed to bring Hot Ones on its platform. This could direct a heavy stream of audiences to Netflix, considering the large amount of dedicated viewers the talk show has.
Hot Wings is a talk show where celebrities are invited by host Sean Evans to ask a few questions about themselves. With each question, the celebrity has to eat very spicier chicken wings.
First reported by Bloomberg on September 13, 2024, the streaming giant has been in talks with BuzzFeed Video, to stream the live versions of Hot Ones, which currently surfaces on the First We Feast YouTube channel along with Complex Media.
Hot Ones on Netflix can be a valuable addition to the platform's library
Hot Ones is one of the most popular talk show channels on YouTube, with its channel having 14 million subscribers. The show has hosted some highly popular popular celebrities including, Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Bear Grylls, David Beckham, Selena Gomez, Conan O'Brien and even Gordon Ramsay.
A recent episode, published on July 25, 2024, inviting Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, a day before the release of Wolverine & Deadpool, received a total of 28 million views. Hot Ones which currently streams on Hulu, can be a highly profitable addition for Netflix, as the platform is currently focusing on growing its live shows.
For the last couple of years, Netflix has been trying to introduce more live events to its gallery, from Boxing events and Golf matches to two NFL Games on Christmas day, and even bringing World Wrestling Entertainment to its platform. Cooking shows like Dinner Time Live with David Chang recently received positive responses, hence adding another food talk show on its streaming platform, can be can increase its revenue.
Netflix and Hot Ones together can make things more spicy
Hot Ones is by far the most popular franchise in First We Eat, and its addition on the platform can be a valuable agreement for both parties. San Evans, in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, published on June 20, 2024, said,
I grew up on Letterman and Conan and Jimmy and those kinds of shows. To compete against those institutions, I think would be the most important distinction we’ve ever had.
Though Evans always accepted that he was a traditionalist, Hot Ones with its spicy touch, has gained significant attention from viewers over the last few years. With Netflix and Hot Ones working together, viewers can expect more of their favourite celebrities coming to the hot seat.
