Josh and Kat were once engaged, but their relationship ended abruptly when the former mysteriously disappeared while Kat was still grieving her father's murder. As time passed, Kat never made an effort to contact Josh, and the reasons behind his sudden departure remained a deep mystery.

After 11 years, Kat discovers Josh’s profile on a dating app and swipes on it, hoping to find the answers she has long been searching for. However, when she reaches out to him, Josh blocks her, intensifying her curiosity.

Eventually, Kat tracks him down to a rural home where Josh, now living with his young daughter, finally admits that he never stopped loving her. The truth behind his disappearance comes to light when Josh reveals the tragic event that occurred the night Clint, Kat's father, died.

Josh was involved in an accident that led to Clint's death. Things got out of hand during a confrontation over Clint’s criminal activities, which Josh had uncovered.

Clint, who was secretly gay, had been involved in shady dealings with dangerous people. In the heat of the moment, Josh killed Clint in the act of self-defense, but the guilt and fear of the consequences led him to leave Kat without any explanation.

Who paid Monte Leburne to take the blame for Clint's murder? Explained

In Missing You, Monte Leburne was an ex-con who had been hired to take the fall for Clint's murder. He was hired by Titus, the leader of a criminal organization that ran a fake dating scheme.

One of the series' main antagonists is Titus, played by Steve Pemberton, who runs a catfishing scheme through his criminal organization. Using fake dating profiles, he dupes unsuspecting singles into dangerous situations.

Titus presents himself as a respectable dog breeder, but his business is a front for his illegal activities. He preys on vulnerable people, particularly those looking for love, by creating fake profiles and using photos from archived social media accounts.

Dana Fells was one of them, and he matched with Josh, or his assumed fake identity, Reggie Cross, on the dating app. She had been inveigled into this web, believing she was starting a relationship with a charming man before being trapped by Titus.

Dana wasn't alone in this. Rishi Magari, another victim, was a widower with a life insurance policy who became an easy target for Titus' scheme. That organization preyed on the vulnerability of either a widowed person or one who is financially well off, thus exploiting their loneliness and trust.

Titus is also involved in blackmail and manipulation, especially with Clint, the father of Detective Kat. He makes good use of the fact that Clint is secretly gay as a means to manipulate him and even threaten him over his secret sexual identity.

That hidden part of Clint's life played a very critical role in his eventual murder. Titus wants to silence Clint as a threat because he knows his personal life could expose him and his involvement in the scheme.
