The much-awaited Nigerian limited series Seven Doors premiered on Netflix on December 13, 2024. Femi Adebayo's directorial debut is set in 18th- and 19th-century Nigeria and features an all-Nollywood cast led by Adebayo himself.
The show explores themes of kinship, family, love, betrayal, and redemption. It tells the story of King Adedunjoye, a man whose reign is troubled by familial struggles, the traditions of his time, and the burden of leadership.
Netflix hosted an exclusive premiere for the series at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX in Lekki, Lagos. As of now, Seven Doors is released in limited regions by Netflix, and there is no confirmation yet regarding its release date in other countries.

Femi Adebayo
The acclaimed Nigerian actor Femi Adebayo plays the role of a Yoruba king named King Adedunjoye in Seven Doors. In the series, he marries an Igbo queen played by Chioma Akpotha. Their union represents a bold effort toward cultural unity, but it faces significant challenges that threaten the kingdom's stability.
Adebayo is a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, boasting over 500 acting credits to his name. His previous collaboration with Netflix, Jagun Jagun, received widespread praise, earning him awards at the AMAA and Abuja International Film Festival. In real life, Adebayo wears many hats as an actor, director, producer, lawyer, and special adviser to the Governor of Kwara State.
Chioma Akpotha
In Seven Doors, Chioma Akpotha plays the role of King Adedunjoye's Igbo Queen, Amaka. Their marriage is tested throughout the series, highlighting the central theme of familial relations and their impact on political righteousness.
Chioma Akpotha is an award-winning Nigerian actress, director, and producer. For her film Sins of the Flesh, she received the 'Best Actress in a Lead Role' award at the AMAA. Since 2000, she has acted in more than 350 Nollywood movies, including The Apple, The Handkerchief, Accident, and On Bended Knees.

The official logline for the series reads:
"A man's life unravels when he is elected as the new king of his village, only for an ancient prophecy to challenge his reign with blood and fury."
Sharing his excitement about the project, Adebayo posted a clip from the series on his Instagram, captioned:
"Today, the 5th door is opened. A full view of the laughter, the tears, the uncertainties, the conniving, the vengeance, the twists that come together to make a tale like no other. A tale of kingship, kinship, family, love, betrayal, and restitution."
He continued:
"This is SEVEN DOORS! A limited series project which blood, sweat, and complete dedication was put in to make it work. The entire crew, cast, and I were committed from the start to making this project as authentic and compelling as possible."
Set in Ilara, Ondo State, the series chronicles Adedunjoye's reign after his coronation. The sins of a long-dead ancestor, Aderogbe, threaten the peace of his village. To counter this threat, he has to marry six other women apart from his wife.
As he grapples with the choice between his destiny and his love for Amaka, the series explores themes of love, loyalty, loss, betrayal, and redemption. The all-Nigerian cast has received praise for their portrayal of Nigerian culture and demeanor.
With elaborate costumes, an emotive soundtrack, and expressive dialogues, the series promises to be a fictional yet grand insight into Nigerian history.
Seven Doors is now streaming on Netflix in select regions.
