What happened to Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things season 4?
With new characters introduced every season, Charlie Heaton's character, Jonathan Byers, got very little screen time. In the first season, Jonathan played a massive role in defeating the Demogorgon, and in season two he fought the Mindflayer.
However, in season four of Stranger Things, he is mostly seen smoking marijuana with his best friend Argyle. We also see Jonathan and Nancy grow apart as he struggles with their long-distance relationship.

The Duffer brothers told Tudum about a mythological document they wrote for Netflix, which talks about the upside-down and its mysteries. They said:
"We were like, we know what’s going on in the Upside Down, more or less, but we want it to be unknowable. We want it to be mysterious. But they were like, Yeah, but can you write it down?’ And so we wrote it all down."
Stranger Things season 5 will be based on the document's last few pages, as hinted by Ross Duffer. He said:
"The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5. And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about."
