Amy Robach's parent talk about their feelings about her dating TJ Holmes after last year's divorce

Amy Robach and TJ Holmes had a “meet the parents” episode in their podcast, joined by Robach’s mom and dad to talk about how they felt about finding out their daughter’s relationship with her former co-host.

Robach’s parents joined the duo in their Amy and T.J. Podcast’s Thursday, June 6 episode, discussing how they learned of the once infamous couple’s relationship in 2022.

Robach’s mom, Joan, recalled how her daughter sent her an article link, which she read to her husband while they were on their way to visit the former GMA 3: What You Need to Know host.

Talking about her husband’s initial reaction when they came to know of their daughter’s new relationship, she said:

“I read it aloud and neither one of us said anything. Just like, ‘I got nothing.’ And then, we got on a plane, said nothing. Got back, checked in at the hotel, said nothing.”

The former GMA 3 host mother further stated that she was unsure how to approach her daughter after learning about her latest romance. She continued:

“Because I think both of us were thinking, and we’re also pretty strong Catholics, so we were also praying, about how do we handle this right so that we don’t hurt Amy’s feelings. That was our number one goal.”

She also admitted to taking the time before she and her husband approached their daughter following the news.

As for her father, Mike, he said:

“For me, this was way too fast. We would’ve much preferred that the divorces had been made known publicly and finalized before you all became a couple.”

As for Holmes, he mentioned in the podcast that he had no idea Robach’s mom and dad found out the news of their romances through text, saying that he “can’t imagine” how they must have felt at the time.

Amy Robach shares feeling “supported” during the TJ Holmes romance drama

Instead of reporting on hot topics, Amy Robach and TJ Holmes were the headlines in 2022 after their “scandalous,” private romances came to light. While the two have stood the test of public scrutiny more than a year since the scandal, it was admittedly a brutal time for both.

Thankfully, at least for Robach’s part, she had her parents' support all the way, who shared much of their thoughts on their daughter’s love life in her podcast with Holmes. She explained how, while the public had endlessly judged them at the time, she never felt judged by her mom and dad.

Talking to her parents in the podcast, she said:

“I’ve never felt more supported by the two of you than I was this past year and a half.”

As for her father, when asked by Holmes about what he felt about his daughter getting another divorce at the time, he said:

“That did not bother us at all. We had reconciled ourselves, and we had told Amy that we totally supported her in leaving that marriage. So that was not an issue at all for us.”

Amy Robach was married to Andrew Shue in 2010 before they separated in 2022, and she was married to Tim McIntosh from 1996 to 2008. As for TJ Holmes, he was married to Marilee Fiebig in 2010 until their divorce was finalized in 2023.
