The 76th Emmy Awards are set to be telecast live from Peacock Theater, on September 15 on ABC. To host this year’s awards, Schitt’s Creek actors Eugene and Dan Levy have been called upon.
According to a statement by the representatives of Jesse Collins Entertainment, the actors had created two of the most remarkable TV characters recently and hence, they fit the bill to host television’s biggest night.
Besides being actors professionally, the two are related to each other as Eugene Levy is Dan Levy’s father. Dan is the first child born to his father and mother Deborah Divine. He has a sister Sarah Levy, who was also a part of Schitt’s Creek’s cast. The father-son duo is excited to host the 76th Emmy Awards and have also shared their thoughts regarding the same.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We're thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can't wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15”, said Eugene and Dan Levy.
According to Disney Television Group’s president Craig Erwich, the father and son duo’s comic intuition and ability to capture the audience's hearts will make for a memorable Emmys show this year. Eugene and Dan Levy, admired for their acting, have gained more popularity for their wit and ability to deliver skilful comic moments, which makes the audience laugh their hearts out.
The production team from last year’s Emmy Awards has been reassembled to take charge of the 76th Emmy Awards, all set to take place on September 15, 2024.
Eugene Levy was a strict parent to son Dan Levy
Eugene Levy married his wife in 1977. In 2019, he told People that he used to be a strict parent to both his children. In Schitt’s Creek, Eugene and Dan Levy recreated their real-life relationship as Johnny and David Rose, respectively. He recalled having a lot of fun working with his kids on camera.
“The thing was for us, if you crossed the line, there was going to be some sort of punishment. It's the way I was brought up, and it's the way I brought up my kids”, said Eugene Levy.
Dan’s career began with hosting MTV’s After Show, The Hills. After a few acting roles over the years, Eugene and Dan Levy founded the production company ‘Not a Real Production Company’, which also produced Schitt’s Creek. The company’s first series was The Big Brunch, on HBO Max. Dan’s first directorial debut was in the 2023 film Good Grief, which he wrote, produced, and acted in.
Eugene Levy’s phenomenal roles in Bringing Down the House, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and Father of the Bride Part II, helped him become one of Hollywood’s popular comedic actors. Recently, he was the host and producer of Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler. The show also came with a second season this year and has received two Emmy nominations.
