The highly anticipated prequel to the Denis Villeneuve movies, Dune and Dune: Part Two, Dune: Prophecy, has finally revealed a premiere month along with a brand new trailer that takes viewers to the world before Paul Atreides and the prophecy. It takes viewers to the beginning of the Bene Gesserit, 10,000 years before the events of the movies.
The six-episode series has confirmed that it will drop in November 2024. However, a concrete date has yet to be revealed. HBO took the same approach earlier with the second season of House of the Dragon. The trailer also gives a better glimpse at what fans can expect from the first season of Dune: Prophecy.
The upcoming spinoff was also recently rebranded to an HBO series after originally being marketed as a Max series.
Dune: Prophecy trailer takes viewers to the beginning
Dune is based on Frank Herbert’s acclaimed work of the same name. The author has written several books set in the universe, which have also been supplemented with more stories from other authors, like Brian Herbert. In fact, Dune: Prophecy, which was originally titled Dune: Sisterhood, is based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel, titled Sisterhood of Dune.
The trailer takes viewers through the many characters who comprise the first of Bene Gesserit, an organization that then goes on to play a crucial role in shaping the entire narrative leading to the Lisan-Al-Gaib.
The trailer also gives a glimpse at the tone of the series, which seems darker and more sinister than how the first movie began. It also gives a glimpse at the many cast members, which include the Harkonnen Sisters (Emily Watson and Olivia Williams), who are crucial to the story.
