The Peacock miniseries chronicles the events of a historic night in Atlanta and dramatizes it. The plot follows the story of a hustler named Chicken Man (Kevin Hart), who hosts an afterparty on the night of Muhammad Ali's historic comeback in 1970. It consisted of some of the wealthiest people in Atlanta, which led to a bizarre criminal underworld heist that changed Atlanta's history.

Muhammad Ali (played by Dexter Darden) came back into the ring after a three-year ban for refusing to be drafted into the U.S. military. The historic night saw Ali beat his opponent while Atlanta was shaken by a robbery. Coincidentally, the detective who was assigned to the case was one of the first people to lead Ali towards a career in boxing.

The official synopsis of the series, as per Peacock, reads:

"Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, based on the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast, follows the infamous story of how an armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but ultimately transformed Atlanta into the “Black Mecca.” When a hustler named Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) hosts an afterparty to celebrate the fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history."

It further reads:

"Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, who is tasked with bringing those responsible to justice."

The series features an ensemble cast including Samuel L. Jackson as iconic Atlanta gangster Frank Moten, Taraji P. Henson as businesswoman Vivan Thomas, and Terrence Howard as Cadillac Richie. The upcoming series guest stars are Chloe Bailey as Lena Mosley, Marsha Stephanie Blake as Delores Hudson, Lori Harvey as Lola Falana, and Sinqua Walls as McKinley Rogers, among others.

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist will premiere on Peacock on September 5, 2024.
