The popular show, For All Mankind, on Apple TV+ will now have a larger universe thanks to the approval of a spinoff series called Star City. With its focus shifting to the Soviet space program, this new series will give viewers a fascinating glimpse into the parallel space race taking place behind the Iron Curtain.

When Europe was split into two distinct regions during the Cold War, this political line was known as the Iron Curtain. It represents the Soviet Union's (USSR) attempts to keep its allies and neutral states at a distance from both itself and its satellite governments.

The upcoming show is based in the actual Star City, or Zvyozdny Gorodok.

Star City: A "propulsive paranoid thriller" after For All Mankind

The much-awaited spinoff of the critically acclaimed series For All Mankind, Star City looks to be an entertaining study of the Soviet space program.

According to an Apple TV press release, the new series is described as:

“A propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.”

In contrast to For All Mankind, Star City will provide a distinct viewpoint by exploring the lives of engineers, cosmonauts, and intelligence officers involved in the covert Soviet space program behind the Iron Curtain.

With a promise of an exciting and engrossing story for viewers everywhere, this series, which was created by Matt Wolpert, Ben Nedivi, and Ronald D. Moore, is poised to reveal the dangers and sacrifices made by these people to expand humanity's reach into space.

Behind the scenes of For All Mankind spinoff: Creators and executive producers

The brilliant minds behind the Star City spinoff series are Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi.

The dynamic and immersive world of the Soviet space program will be brought to life by Wolpert and Nedivi, the showrunners of Star City, providing viewers with a new angle on the space race.

Moore, Wolpert, and Nedivi are the executive producers of both, For All Mankind and Star City. Moore's Tall Ship Productions' Maril Davis, David Weddle, Bradley Thompson, Seth Edelstein, and Kira Snyder are also involved in the production.

Apple quoted executive producers Wolpert and Nedivi as saying,

“The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. We could not be more excited to continue building out the alternate history universe (...) with our partners at Apple and Sony.”

The studio behind both programs is Sony Pictures Television.

Those interested need an Apple TV+ subscription to watch For All Mankind and its upcoming spinoff series Star City.
