The highly anticipated Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, got an encouraging update as HBO announced that the series has finally started production. The filming is reportedly taking place in Belfast, Ireland. It was also announced that five new actors are joining the cast of the series, which had only revealed the two leads up to now, Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire.
The new actors joining the list are Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell, who are all prominent names in the industry and have worked on high-profile shows like True Detective and Sex Education.
The first image from the production gives a glimpse at Ser Duncan the Tall in the medieval world of Westeros. The series will reportedly take place a hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, which puts it about a century after the currently ongoing spinoff, House of the Dragon.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms first look: Everything to know about the series
Adapted from George R.R. Martin's novella set in the world of Game of Thrones, The Hedge Knight, the upcoming spinoff will focus on the adventures of knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will tell a more intimate story of Westeros that does not follow the conventional politics audiences have witnessed in the other two shows of the same universe.
A detailed logline from HBO gives more detail about the same. It reads:
"A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
This tale of the two "unlikely heroes" will be filled with characters from the familiar houses that we already know of. The series is also likely to feature many references to the era of House of the Dragon, which takes place roughly a century before the events of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms.
What roles will the new actors play in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will feature the lead duo traveling to a competition, where they will encounter various figures from Westeros. Among these, Finn Bennett takes on the role of Prince Aerion Targaryen. He will be joined by fellow Taragrayens, Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen and Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.
Daniel Ings of Sex Education fame takes on the role of a fellow knight, Ser Lyonel Baratheon, also known as the Laughing Storm. Tanzyn Crawford plays the role of a puppeteer about whom not much is known yet.
The series is yet to announce a release window or more cast members. More details about the same are expected to arrive soon.
