Gypsy Rose Blanchard opened up about her initial breakup with her fiance Ken Urker. In the second episode of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, titled Independence is Scary, Blanchard told her then-husband Ryan Scott Anderson about her relationship with Urker.

In the episode, filmed in 2023, Ryan and the former convict are driving from Missouri to Louisiana. She explains that she dated Urker for two years, beginning in 2017, while she was in prison.

"Even though he was in the free world, and I was in prison, this was my first actual relationship that was long-term. Right before we were going to get married, he ended the relationship. It devastated me. I think he pretty much gave me every breakup line the book."

Blanchard, at the time, was serving a ten-year sentence, pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee. Rose grew up being mentally and physically abused by her mother, and to escape her circumstances, she had her then-boyfriend murder Dee Dee. She served eight of her ten-year sentence before being released on parole in December 2023.
