If Alien: Romulus wasn't enough to satisfy your Alien needs, then Hulu has Alien: Earth in store for you as well. The first teaser for Noah Hawley's upcoming Alien prequel series hit online and it gave a first look at what fans can expect from the show. The short teaser begins with a shot of Earth which quickly morphs into a Xenomorph before the clip ends and then reveals its title.
While the teaser for Alien: Earth doesn't offer much in terms of what the show itself will be about, the teaser's description does provide an official synopsis. Talking about a mysterious space vessel crash landing on Earth, it looks like the show will focus on a group of soldiers battling the Xenomorph.
"When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley. FX’s Alien: Earth original series coming in 2025, only on Hulu."
It also officially reveals that the show is set to hit the small screens soon in 2025 and that it will also only be available to stream on Hulu.
When does Alien: Earth take place?
Alien: Earth is set to be a prequel that will take place before Ridley Scott's original Alien and his prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant as well. While a proper year for when the series will take place in the timeline hasn't been revealed yet, it is said to be taking place on Earth given the title of the show.
It also looks like Alien: Earth won't be diving too deep into the prequel lore that was established by Ridley Scott in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Talking about the Xenomorph itself in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley described it as a "product" of millions of years of evolution, and that it being created as a bioweapon is ultimately less interesting to him.
“Ridley and I have talked about this — and many, many elements of the show. For me, and for a lot of people, this ‘perfect life form’ — as it was described in the first film — is the product of millions of years of evolution that created this creature that may have existed for a million years out there in space. The idea that, on some level, it was a bioweapon created half an hour ago, that’s just inherently less useful to me," said Hawley.
In the same interview, Hawley also spoke about how he prefers the retro-futurism of the first two films and that's the aesthetic he has chosen for the show too:
"I prefer the retro-futurism of the first two films. And so that’s the choice I’ve made — there’s no holograms. The convenience of that beautiful Apple store technology is not available to me," said Hawley.
