“I see the vision”: Rebel Ridge fans see Aaron Pierre as the perfect casting choice for Green Lantern

With the casting for the upcoming Green Lantern series, Lanterns, underway, fans have already chosen their pick for John Stewart in the show. Over the weekend, Netflix saw the release of the thriller Rebel Ridge, which stars Aaron Pierre as the lead Terry Richmond. Fans have watched the film and declared the actor the best casting choice for John Stewart.

Lanterns are reportedly set to feature Green Lantern's Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with an older Jordan playing a mentor figure to the young Stewart as the duo investigates a mystery on Earth. While earlier this month, it was reported that Josh Brolin had been offered the role of Jordan, fans are now saying that with the spot for Stewart still being left open, perhaps Aaron Pierre could be offered the role.

"Just watched Rebel Ridge. I see the vision," said one fan.

"I just watched Rebel Ridge… Aaron Pierre is literally Jon Stewart!! Like omg! That movie could’ve ended with him getting a green lantern ring (I’m joking, but it was a good movie, and he’s the perfect actor for Green Lantern!)," said another fan.

"Aaron is a fantastic choice for John," opined another fan as well.

Other fans also noticed the similarity between Pierre's character Terry and John Stewart in the comics, and "100%" agreed that he should be cast in the role.

"Just seen Rebel Ridge and YASSSS homie is 1000% John Stewart he even PORTRAYS him ina non DC film it was INSANE. Insane performance," said a fan.

"Aaron Pierre would be a Good Cast Choice to Play John Stewart ...He has that Quiet Authority and Stoic Presence," said another fan.

"Someone make sure the peeps making the Green Lantern series watch REBEL RIDGE. Aaron Pierre would be a great John Stewart," opined another fan.

Josh Brolin currently has been offered a role in the Green Lantern series

While who will be playing John Stewart in the upcoming Lanterns series is still yet to be decided, Nexus News initially reported that actor Josh Brolin had been offered the role of Hal Jordan. While Brolin hasn't accepted the role yet, DC Studios has reached out to him, and they also stated that the casting for John Stewart is underway.

What is the upcoming Lanterns series about?

When it was initially revealed by James Gunn - the head of DC Studios - during the official DCU slate reveal, he stated that Lanterns will be inspired by True Detective and follow a "terrifying" mystery. He said:

"This is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan. We have a few other Lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth in it they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU."

Alongside that, Damon Lindelof, of Lost and Watchmen fame, is developing the upcoming Lanterns series. He is being joined by DC comics writers Tom King and Chris Mundy, who also developed Ozark.
