On April 25, 2024, the cast members of Young Sheldon Annie Potts and Iain Armitage opened up about CBS' decision to cancel the show after seven seasons. In this regard, during an interview, Potts stated to Variety:
"This one was especially hard because I was completely unprepared.”
“I still don’t understand why they canceled it,” she added. “It just seemed like such a stupid business move.”
The popular Big Bang Theory prequel will conclude with its seventh season, CBS announced in November.
Regarding the same, Armitage stated in the same Variety interview that he believed "we could have done a lot more" with the program.
Young Sheldon stars Annie Potts and Iain Armitage opens up about the show’s conclusion in a candid interview
The production of Young Sheldon starring Iain Armitage came to an end last week. After seven years, the well-liked CBS sitcom is officially coming to an end with its final episode, which will air on May 16, 2024. However, some of the show's stars don't seem to have fully agreed with the decision, believing that there was room to extend the show's run.
Variety recently published an interview on April 25, 2024, with Potts and Armitage in which they discussed their feelings over the finale of the show.
Actress Annie Potts, who plays Connie Tucker, aka MeeMaw, talked about how it felt to wrap up the sitcom. Speaking to the same, she added that she was still really emotional about the whole thing.
She further said:
"I mean, it’s been half of Ian’s life, and it’s been a 10th of mine, but at 70, that feels significant. And, you know, it’s a little village that we have, and we’ve all taken care of each other and raised each other up."
Meanwhile, Armitage said:
“It’s definitely hard to end and getting to work with such incredible people will always make it harder.”
When asked if saying farewell gets easier with time, Annie admitted that because she was so unprepared for Young Sheldon's end, it was harder to say goodbye to the show. She also thought the decision was a complete surprise to them.
Potts added that she is still perplexed by CBS's choice to cancel it, although the show continues to deliver high ratings for the network. On the other hand, Armitage has hinted that the series finale will bring the show to a full circle.
Talking about Jim Parsons' interaction with Ian during the early episodes of the show, Ian said:
“Mostly, just teaching me how to do the accent and the way Sheldon looks at the world. Saying that Sheldon seeks order and has a hard time with social interaction, how it can sort of be disordered.”
Additionally, the pair also discussed their feelings over Parsons' reappearance in the final episode as adult Sheldon and gave a sneak peek at the recent episode, A Fancy Article and a Scholarship for a Baby.
