Bob Newhart passed away at age 94 on July 18, 2024, and the world of film and television has been shaken by the news. Newhart appeared in Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's The Big Bang Theory as Arthur Jeffries, a.k.a. Professor Proton. He became a mentor for Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) throughout the show. Newhart's career started when a local DJ, Dan Sorkin, introduced him to the head of talent at Warner Bros. Records, and they signed him on. Newhart started his career as a standup comedian.
