Hollywood is potentially diving into the life of Princess Diana once again with a new three-part docuseries titled, Who Killed Diana?. The series, based on the death of the Princess of Wales, will bring to light new revelations of her accident and take an in-depth look into the tragedy. Deadline, exclusively revealed news of the upcoming series before the anniversary of Diana's death.
It is worth noting that too many details about the Princess Diana docuseries aren't available as of writing this article. However, Deadline did report that Emma Cooper will be directing the new series. Cooper has previously produced several high-profile documentaries for Netflix.
Details about its release date and the platform it will be released on have also yet to be revealed. However, a synopsis for the show reads:
"Who Killed Diana? will explore the circumstances surrounding the death of the Princess of Wales on August 31, 1997. It will feature rare and, in some cases, the first ever interviews with several key sources connected to the accident that caused Diana’s death. It will cast new light on the case that has captured the world’s attention for decades."
The new Princess Diana docuseries to be directed by Emma Cooper
Emma Cooper has previously produced other docuseries like The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe and Depp vs. Heard. Cooper's company, Empress Films will team up with EverWonder Studios for the upcoming series on Princess Diana's death.
In a statement to Deadline, Cooper spoke about her commitment towards exploring the life of Princess Diana, and how she wanted to bring a new perspective to the story. She said that she is passionate about "exploring legendary women through investigative journalistic documentaries."
Cooper added that they plan to take the story the world thought it knew and uncover hidden truths as they did with The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe. She went on to say that she was committed to approaching Princess Diana's story with "fresh perspectives, new voices, and previously untold information."
“I couldn’t have asked for better partners than Ian, Jon, and the entire Everworder team, who have become true collaborators," said Cooper.
In a statement, EverWonder also shared that they were excited to team up with Emma Cooper for the upcoming Princess Diana docuseries. Jon Adler, the head of talent at EverWonder, stated how Cooper set a high bar for covering these kinds of stories.
Adler added that Cooper and Empress Films had set a "high bar" for covering "perplexing events through unprecedented access and premium storytelling." He went on to state that since they both believed that approach and access were everything, the new franchise would do more than just look at the deaths of famous figures.
"This new franchise will not merely revisit deaths of famous figures, it will actively drive the story forward with new voices and fresh insight into compelling and complex details," said Jon Adler.
When will the Princess Diana docuseries be released?
The docuseries currently has no fixed date and no confirmed place of release, but viewers can expect more details to come soon. Who Killed Diana? will be another documentary that will follow a line long of projects based on the late Princess.
In the past few years, viewers have received films like Spencer and the later seasons of The Crown on Netflix that explored the life of the late Princess.
