Actress Christine Lakin believes she lost Netflix's Fuller House because of a past incident involving star Candace Cameron Bure’s brother. On Saturday's, August 3, 2024, episode of Jodie Sweetin’s How Rude, Tanneritos podcast, the 45-year-old speculated on why she was fired from the Full House sequel.

Lakin was set to appear in a recurring role on the show but was unexpectedly "let go." Christine Lakin wondered if the "strange" decision stemmed from a static Funny or Die video she was a part of.

"I participated in a Funny or Die video that a friend of mine made and at the time, Funny or Die had just come out. At the time, Kirk Cameron had said some public things about the LGBTQ community, and I thought those were potentially very damaging, and I was asked to participate with a bunch of other former child actors."

Lakin is referring to the show's protagonist, Candace Cameron Bure’s brother, Kirk, who came under scrutiny for his comments in a March 2012 CNN interview where he called homosexuality "unnatural, detrimental, and ultimately destructive to foundations of civilization." The actress explained that it was a satirical video, adding that it went viral. She continued:

"All I can think of is that it created some bad blood. And years later, my presence was not wanted."

To be noted, the video in question was "CCOKC - Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron" (April 2012). It included stars like Keth Coogan, Kenn Michael, and Maureen Flannigan.

Fuller House (2016–2020) is a Netflix reboot of ABC's sitcom Full House (1987–1995). It chronicles the lives of recently widowed sports anchor Danny Tanner, who recruits the help of his brother-in-law and best friend to help raise his three daughters, D.J., Stephanie, and Michelle.

In the interview, the Step-by-Step star refers to playing the character of C.J. Harbenberger, girlfriend of Steve Hale (D.J.'s high school sweetheart-turned-husband), on season 2 of the show. The four-episode stint eventually went to Lakin's good friend, Virginia Williams.

"It was a bummer for me. It really was. I would have loved to have done that," Lakin said.

The actress told the How Rude, Tanneritos hosts that she had a "great" meeting with series creator Jeff Franklin and "was stoked" about being part of the show.

"And then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, 'Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite,'" the actress recalled.

The next day, Christine Lakin's manager informed her of her firing but didn't have any details on her termination other than the character being rewritten and "they’re not going to need you anymore."

At the time, the Valentine star was confused, wondering what she had done wrong. A writer friend of hers who also worked on Fuller House, didn't have an answer for her, stating, "It's above (her) paygrade." Christine admitted that she had recently given birth (March 2016) and was gearing up to go to work, but the termination sent her down a "shame spiral."

Christine Lakin added that it was her way of standing up for what she believed, adding that it was her way of "call(ing) people out in a satirical way."

Candace Cameron Bure or Kirk Cameron have not publicly reacted to Christine Lakin's comments.
