Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt revealed she watches pimple-popping videos before filming emotional scenes. During her interview with E News on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the 45-year-old discussed her eccentric ritual to get into the right head space.
"I like to watch pimple popping videos. Because it's really enjoyable A, and B, it doesn't mess with my headspace. It doesn't take me out of the drama headspace and into a happier headspace," Love Hewitt revealed.
The actress is referring to the popular viral videos that show the treatment of various skin acne conditions, such as pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. Love Hewitt explained that she watches these videos because she doesn't want images of her children popping into her head. Hewitt is married to Brian Hallisay, and they have three children: Autumn, 10, Atticus, 8, and Aidan, 2.
"I find it hard to look at pictures of my kids while I'm doing crying scenes because then I get really happy. So, I tend to watch pimple popping videos," Love Hewitt added.
The actress also listens to music to get in the right mood for the scene, adding that she tries to "keep it light for (herself)" in between.
Jennifer Love Hewitt credited her children for getting over the dramatic headspace
Born in Waco, Texas, Jennifer Love Hewitt began acting and singing at an early age, appearing in several TV commercials for Mattel toys. Her first break came when she was cast in the Disney Channel show Kids Incorporated. She rose to fame by appearing as Sarah Reeves Merrin on Fox's Party of Five.
Since then, she has appeared in hit films and shows like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ghost Whisper, The Client List, and Heartbreakers. Additionally, Hewitt has also released four studio albums.
Talking about turning off the dramatic mood after an emotional scene, Jennifer Love Hewitt credited her children for never being in the darker headspace for long. She told E News:
"Honestly, the drama stuff has gotten easier for me since having kids. Because I have such a better balance now of going to work and kind of being dramatic and doing all that and then the second that I walk in the door, it's like you just have to be silly. So, it lightens my mood up right away."
Since 2018, Jennifer Love Hewitt has played Maddie Buckley, an ER nurse working as a 9-1-1 operative, on Fox's (now ABC) police procedural drama 9-1-1. Since the show began, Buckley has overcome an abusive relationship and experienced postpartum depression.
Buckley is now married to her longtime lover, Howard Han (played by Kenneth Choi), though it was not without its own drama, which included the groom going missing. Talking about her role and on-screen wedding, Jennifer Love Hewitt told E News:
"I think that Maddie and Chimney getting married is where the audience has always wanted it to go. I think they deserve their happy ending and Lord knows they've been through it."
She continued:
"So, it was nice to have that, and it was nice to spend a season where, for all intents and purposes, Maddie was pretty happy and not struggling with a major thing."
9-1-1 airs every Thursday at 8:00 pm on ABC.
