The second part of Emily in Paris season 4 dropped on Netflix on Sunday, September 15. In this new installment, Emily (played by Lily Collins) travels to Rome. While Emily's trip to the Italian city was initially supposed to be a romantic getaway with a new love interest, Marcello, it turned into business upon her boss, Sylie's surprise visit.

In the first season of Emily in Paris, released in 2020, Emily Cooper was born and brought up in Chicago, where she worked as a marketing executive for the Gilbert Group. Cooper was initially sent to Paris for a year to work at Savior, a French marketing company the group had acquired.

Emily, who was in France only temporarily, has been here for four seasons of Emily in Paris now, which made fans question her unrealistic visa regulations on social media. Reacting to Emily's seemingly long stay in Paris despite being an American citizen, fans reacted to her having no visa issues on X. One user commented:

"Ikr. It’s giving illegal immigrant."

Some fans questioned her identity as an illegal immigrant in the country:

"THIS. To my knowledge, she's over the 6 month limit and that agency is too small to sponsor her," another netizen tweeted.
"there should a season arc of her just stressing out about her renewals," another X user commented.
"almost certainly expired," another user wrote.
"Lol good question! It’s giving over stayer turned to illegal immigrant," an X user commented.

Meanwhile, others pointed out how it all made sense:

"A year doesn't mean a series lol. It look 3 series for her boss to give birth," an X user wrote.
"The “I’m never going back” kind," another X user stated.
"she was originally sent to Paris on a work assignment, so she likely has a long-stay work visa," one person commented.
"there’s actually an entire episode dedicated to Sylvie getting Emily her work visa," an X user stated.

Emily would be moving to Italy for a year at the end of Emily in Paris season 4

The fourth season of Emily in Paris was released on Netflix in two parts - the first five episodes were released on August 15, with the rest of the five episodes dropped last Sunday.

In the first part of Emily in Paris season 4, Emily and Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo) come together as a couple, despite Camille and the unborn baby in the picture.

However, things come apart between them in the second part of Emily in Paris, when Gabriel leaves Emily - an untrained skier - on top of the mountain to chase after Camille, who rushes ahead. That becomes the last straw as Emily decides she doesn't want to come second to Camille all her life.

In the following episodes, a spark ignites between Copper and Marcello, an Italian goatherd who turns out to be the owner of a global luxury cashmere brand, Umberto Muratori.

Emily takes a break from work to visit Marcello in Rome, a romantic holiday that turns into a business meeting. But all ends well as the Muratoris give Agence Grateau their business and Sylvie decides to open an office in Rome, where Cooper would be heading.

Darren Star talked about the short-lived fairytale in Emily in Paris

Talking about the "up and down" relationships of Emily Cooper, Darren Star, the creator of Emily in Paris, told The Hollywood Reporter on September 12:

"Sometimes they have amazing chemistry and an amazing connection and yet, they’ve got some obstacles. And maybe Emily and Gabriel aren’t meant to be for now. Maybe they will be for later."

Explaining introducing Marcello's character in the second part of the season, Star said:

"I wanted to bring in a new love interest for Emily that would feel like a fresh start after all of the drama with Gabriel. Marcello comes into Emily’s life in an unexpected way and opens the door to so many possibilities for Emily: new country, new culture, new adventure."

While a fifth season of Emily in Paris hasn't been announced yet, fans are eager to explore Lily Collin's Roman adventures if and when it arrives.
